Atwell, Pike, and Davalos Want a Shot at Jack Reacher

Most people didn’t agree with Tom Cruise stepping into the admittedly huge shoes of Lee Child’s literary hero Jack Reacher, but perhaps they’ll find his leading lady to be more agreeable.

Current reports have actresses Hayley Atwell (Captain America’s gal in “The First Avenger”), Alexa Davalos (“The Chronicles of Riddick”) and Rosamund Pike (“Die Another Day” and who, in a bit of irony, recently replaced Davalos as Andromeda in the “Clash of the Titans” sequel) are all currently testing to play the female lead in Cruise’s “One Shot”, which is currently set for a 2013 release.

The film, which will be adapted for the screen by “The Usual Suspects” co-writer Christopher McQuarrie, will star Cruise as laconic former military MP Jack Reacher, who finds himself trying to put a sniper from his past behind bars. The female lead is the attorney trying to keep the accused sniper out of prison. She also happens to be the rebellious daughter of the city’s district attorney, who is trying to put her client in prison. Makes dinner time interesting, if nothing else.

Heat Vision thinks it’s highly possible that one of the three leading ladies will land the gig by this weekend. Current “It” girl Brit Marling of “Another Earth” fame had the job if she wanted it, but apparently didn’t want it.

Although the book was set in a small American city, the movie will be shot in and around Pittsburgh sometime this Fall.
