Avatar 2, 3 and 4 to Shoot Back-to-Back-to-Back Starting this Fall

James Cameron on the set of Avatar (2009) Movie ImageThat’s all according to Sigourney Weaver, who co-starred in James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster sci-fi hit to end all blockbuster sci-fi hits, “Avatar”, Cameron is planning to not just shoot the sequel later this Fall, but he plans to shoot part 2, part 3, and part 4 at the same time. Or back-to-back-to-back, would seem more likely.

The news came during an interview about her upcoming USA Network show “Political Animals”, in which Weaver plays a Hillary Clinton-esque character not named Hillary Clinton. It’s, you know, a political show that will probably get canceled after one year. So let’s not waste too much time on that.

Going back to “Avatar” 2, 3, and 4…

When “Political Animals” finishes shooting, see if you can follow Weaver’s schedule: she goes right into a new Christopher Durang play for a short run at Lincoln Center. Then she films “Avatar” 2, 3, and 4 with James Cameron. That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it’s going to work. “I just show up,” she said. If “Political Animals” is renewed, USA will have to wait until all that’s over.

Hunh. Three more “Avatar” movies?

I guess when James Cameron recently announced that all he was going to do with his career from now on was make “Avatar” movies, he wasn’t kidding around. The guy is apparently really committed to the blue folks of Pandora.

But three more movies? Sheesh. How many more environmental brownie points do you really need to make, James? Then again, as long as mean humans are running around shooting guns at nature while wearing giant mech suits and aliens are having kinky tail sex (all in 3D, natch), it’s all good.
