Remember that bizarro Paul Bunyan-based horror movie I told you about a few weeks back? If not, that’s okay. I don’t expect you to remember all of the cinematic garbage I try to shove into your brain at any given moment of the day. Well, apparently the good folks over at SyFy have snagged the rights to “Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan” and are preparing to unleash it upon the masses this Thursday (June 13). My faith in American entertainment is restored.

The setup is pretty simple: Kids are in the woods with a giant. And the giant, you see, he’s got a relaly big axe. And the kids are going to die. That’s the movie in a nutshell, and I haven’t even seen the damned thing yet. Like many of you, my entire evening is currently planned around the television premiere of “Axe Giant.” Ain’t life glorious?

Need a refresher? Check out this synopsis:

Kids at a first-offenders’ boot camp discover that the legend of Paul Bunyan is real, but is much more horrifying than they could have imagined. The survivors must team up with the local sheriff to stop the 15-foot giant’s new rampage of terror.

Like I said, ain’t it glorious? “Axe Giant” features a number of notable B-movie actors, though the only one who really matters is Joe Estevez. The world would be a much happier place if that guy was in more major motion pictures. If I ever get three wishes, Hollywood will never be the same.

Check out the trailer below, and be sure to catch “Axe Giant” on SyFy this Thursday. Check your local listings to make sure you don’t miss it. I’d really hate for that to happen.

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at)
