Badass New US Trailer For Ong Bak 3

It is no secret that I was disappointed with “Ong Bak 2”, though I’ve encountered fans of the sequel. While their points are certainly valid, I’ve watched the movie a couple of times, and it simply doesn’t do it for me, even with the epic fight sequences.

Star Tony Jaa ruined his relationship with “Ong Bak” director Prachya Pinkaew by demanding that he direct the sequel. And production of “Ong Bak 3” was, well, a disaster. The film was quickly cobbled together from an inferior script, and Jaa famously had a meltdown in the middle of shooting, rode and elephant into the jungle, shaved his head, and hid out with some monks for a couple of months. At one point he appeared on television in tears, vowing to finish the film. (Twitch breaks it all down for you if you want the gory details.)

I haven’t seen “Ong Bak 3”, but early reports aren’t all that great. However, the US trailer makes it looks completely awesome, so it has that going for it, which is a plus. This makes me want to go see it when it opens in select cities in December, with a wider release in January.

The earlier reports are true. This movie is a major disappointment. If you were disappointed by Ong Bak 2. Then this movie might not be for you. Sure it finishes the story if you really wanted a conclusion. However, the story seemed forced and the fights are very few and nothing short of disappointing coming from Tony Jaa.

After the finished shooting Tony Jaa shaved his head and became a monk. I believe this was the only way he could escape his long contract with the movie studio. They had him lock in for close to 10yrs.
