Baywatch: The Movie Will Go for the Laughs

Baywatch Movie — By Nix on July 7, 2009

Hey, it’s a TV show about men and women with insanely perfect bodies running around in slow-motion on the beach kinda saving people, but mostly having sex with each other. (I think. I’m not actually a fan of the show. I think I’ve only seen, oh, about 20 minutes of it in its entire lifetime. Seriously, it just didn’t do it for me on any level whatsoever.) Anyways, you wanna turn that into a credible drama? Not a chance. Variety reports that Paramount Pictures plans to turn the swimsuit-tastic TV show into a big-screen movie, with comedy writer Jeremy Garelick set to write and direct.

Garelick has made it clear that he has no interest whatsoever in doing a straight-up “Baywatch” movie, and instead will turn the whole thing into a comedy, something along the lines of “Stripes” with Bill Murray and “Police Academy” with, you know, that guy who makes voices with his mouth.

Instead of focusing on a Pam Anderson or David Hasselhoff type, the movie will instead follow two unlikely lifeguard candidates that must learn to survive the hard knocks and even harder bodies of lifeguard duty on a stretch of California beach. Expect an insane amount of pretty people to be cast in the coming weeks and months.

The movie was previously scripted by Jay Scherick and David Ronn, who turned it into an action piece. That script is now in the trash can, with Garelick writing the movie from scratch.

Below: “Oh yeah. Everyone wants to be near The Hoff, as it should be.”
