The first, actual movie post of 2012 brings you a teaser trailer for Alex Craig Mann’s “Detention of the Dead”, a film that I’ve been following for some time since I stumbled across test footages for it (of a zombie playing basketball, natch) early last year. It’s a zombie movie set in a high school and centered around a group of teens who happen to be, yes, all movie archetypes. The cheerleader, the Goth kid, the nerd, the jock, etc, etc. Nothing new there, but then again, as long as they bring the funny and the blood, I’m not really sure if they need to be all that novel about their characters. Take a look, won’t you?
It was bound to happen. If you put large group of conformity driven pubescence, aka your average teenager, together for long enough, you can’t be surprised when one day they decide to eat each other… Comedy and Horror unite in this “The Breakfast Club” meets “Shaun of the Dead” tale about a group of oddball high school students who find themselves trapped in detention with their classmates having turned into a horde of Zombies. Can they put their differences aside and work together to survive the night? Fat chance! This is High School after all.
Starring Jacob Zachar (“Greek”), Alexa Nikolas (“Zoey 101”), Christa B. Allen (“Revenge”), Jayson Blair (“The Hard Times of RJ Berger”), Justin Chon (“Twilight”), Max Adler (“Glee”), and directed by Alex Craig Mann.
As of now, no release date yet, so look for it on the festival circuit then possibly landing on DVD or thereabouts in 2012.
