Because You Demanded It: Donnie Darko 2
Donnie Darko 2: S. Darko (2009) Movie — By Nix on May 9, 2008 |
Good news and bad news, fans of “Donnie Darko”, and I know there are a lot of you out there, even if I don’t count myself among them. The good news is that there will be a sequel to the 2001 cult him, to be called “S. Darko”; the bad news is that Richard Kelly, the writer/director/creator of the original will not be back — in any capacity. I.e. They’ve jettisoned him, and in his stead, Chris Fisher will direct, and Daveigh Chase, who played Samantha Darko in the original, will reprise her role for the sequel.
Empire has your plot:
S. Darko will pick up seven years after the death of Donnie, with youngest Darko Samantha, now 18, and her best friend Corey being plagued by bizarre visions while on a roadtrip to Los Angeles.
Like I said, I was never a really big fan of the original, although I did appreciate the film’s innovative approach to storytelling and sci-fi time travel. Making a sequel without Kelly is definitely going to piss off a lot of people, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing went straight to DVD.
