So I guess this means it’s official: Josh Brolin is officially Jonah Hex, disfigured gunfighter and perennial beauty pageant loser, despite all his heeing and hawing about the role. What’s interesting is who he’ll be going up against in the flick: John Malkovich, who has signed on to play a character name Turnbull, described as a wealthy Southern plantation owner with a grudge against our hero Jonah Hex for the death of his son. The funny thing is, Hex didn’t kill the kid, so I’m guessing Hex either go the killed kid, or he kid saw Hex’s face and was frozen in place, then got shot by those damn Yankees as a result.
Variety has this on the role:
Malkovich will play Turnbull, a wealthy Southern plantation owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. He blames Hex, a former confederate soldier-turned-hardened bounty hunter and gunslinger.
Eh, close enough.
Jimmy Hayward (“Horton Hears a Who”) will direct from a script by “Crank” boys Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Mad Chance’s Andrew Lazar is producing with Weed Road’s Akiva Goldsman.
Below: It’s not easy being John Malkovich. There’s all the girls and cocaine and millions of bucks. Okay, so it’s pretty easy being John Malkovich.
