According to Russian filmmaker Timur Bekmabetov, who tells a Russian newspaper that may or may not exist (look, when it comes to these foreign media, who knows if they actually exist), he’ll begin prepping a sequel to last year’s surprise hit “Wanted” sometime in July, with production to start sometime in “late autumn or winter” Llocations for the movie, says the director, will include America, India and Russia. Why Russia? Well, he’s from Russia, so why not?
According to Comingsoon, who is using a translated version of the interview from another site, Bekmabetov also states that he has figured out a way to bring back Angelina Jolie’s character for the sequel, though no word on James McAvoy reprising his role. Apparently people aren’t so much interested in McAvoy as they are in trying to figure out a way to bring back Jolie, which kinda sucks for McAvoy.
Reportedly the sequel to “Wanted” will boast a $150 million dollar budget, which seems entirely too high to me, but whatever, I’m no bean counter.
The original “Wanted” was based on a comic book by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones, and centered around a secret fraternity of supervillains who had succeeded in destroying or capturing their goody two-shoes counterparts and was secretly running the world. The movie version, er, didn’t exactly go in that direction.
