Ben Foster and Giovanni Ribisi Grabbing Some Contraband

Looks like Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale’s upcoming “Contraband” is about to get a whole lot cooler, with news that Ben Foster and Giovanni Ribisi are “circling” the film, a remake of the Icelandic film “Reykjavik-Rotterdam”.

The film’s plot has Wahlberg playing a reformed smuggler who now works as a lowly security guard, but when he runs into financial hardship, decides to go on one more smuggling run. Ben Foster (below), who can be quite a force in the right roles, will play Wahlberg’s brother-in-law. Ribisi’s role, meanwhile, is unknown.

Baltasar Kormakur, who co-wrote and starred in the original movie, will direct the remake for Universal. Production is set to begin January of next year for a March 2012 release.
