You can add “Star Trek’s” latest villain Benedict Cumberbatch to the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s Gothic horror story “Crimson Peak”. The “Sherlock” actor joins Emma Stone and del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” star Charlie Hunnam on the film.
No word on what character Cumberbatch will play in the film, though Yahoo says “Crimson Peak” will be about “a woman who discovers that the man she married is not at all who he appears to be.” Hopefully she didn’t sign a pre-nup. Or maybe hopefully she HAS signed a pre-nup?
Anyways, I think it’s safe to assume that Stone will play the “young woman”, while Hunnam is likely playing “the man she married”. But who will Cubmerbatch play? Who knows, but it’s probably either the bad guy or the bad guy’s assistant. He just has that “look” about him, ya know?
Cumberbatch is of course most known as the star of BBC’s Sherlock Holmes show “Sherlock”, and will be bothering Kirk and company on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek Into Darkness” later this Summer.
“Crimson Peak”, unlike a lot of projects that del Toro attaches himself to, is set to go in production with del Toro directing sometime early next year. (Well, unless he ditches the project first, of course. Dude has a habit of doing that.)
UPDATE: Deadline adds that Jessica Chastain is also in the movie. But like Cumberbatch or the other two castmembers, no word on what role she’ll be playing.
