Benedict Cumberbatch Has No Time to Climb Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak

There will be no cumberbatching it on Guillermo del Toro’s haunted house drama “Crimson Peak”, with news that the awesomely named Benedict Cumberbatch (only across the pond would you find a surname like Cumberbatch) has dropped out of the film.

Cumberbatch, recently seen as the villain in “Star Trek into Darkness” and the upcoming Wikileaks movie “The Fifth Estate” (where he’s playing another villain, depending on your global political POV), has apparently elected to drop out of “Crimson Peak”. The search is now out for a replacement.

The Brit actor was originally attached to co-star (as the villain, would be my guess — dude just has that regal villainous look about him, don’t you think?) alongside Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” star Charlie Hunnam.

In the film, Wasikowska plays Edith Cushing, a young writer who discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be. Hunnam, I am guessing, is playing the husband.

“Crimson Peak” is set to shoot early next year in February.
