Here’s a bigger version of the poster for Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution” via Variety. The Chinese-language film (the trailer tried its hardest to avoid mentioning that the movie is in Chinese, in case you didn’t notice, wink wink) stars Hong Kong stalwart Tony Leung and is set in WWII Shanghai, and involves a plot to assassinate an intelligence chief in the Japanese-backed Chinese government. Leung plays the intelligence chief, Joan Chen plays his wife and newcomer Wei Tang is a student who seduces Leung’s the character in order to set up the assassination.
Just by looking at the poster, and if you didn’t already know who the director was, the first thought that has to pop into your head is, “Wong Kar Wai is directing another movie ALREADY?” That’s how “Wong Kar Wai-ish” the poster is. Mind you, not that there’s anything wrong with that. When you can be compared to Kar Wai, you’re in very good company.
The film is scheduled for limited release on September 28. That means LA and NY and probably DVD for the rest of us.
