Bizarre Trailer For Leos Carax’s Holy Motors

I’m not sure what to say about the trailer for “Holy Motors”, the latest film from experimental French filmmakers Leos Carax. I’m not sure there is anything to say. The film is getting rave reviews from Cannes, though one critic remarks, “it’s hard to imagine anyone enjoying their popcorn when confronted with a naked man with an erection eating Eva Mendes’ hair.” So it’s going to be that kind of movie.

Between the music, talk of murder, and guy with one dead eye, the trailer for “Holy Motors” has a spooky, sinister vibe, and violence never feels far away. I imagine this is going to be one of those movies that is frustratingly artistic, and dense to the point on near incomprehensibility. There will likely be a cool ambiance, and much to recommend the film, but there’s also going to be moments when you want to tear out your hair. Some people will love it, some will detest it.
