I love me a good post-apocalyptic flick. And the premise for South Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s Western debut, “Snowpiercer”, based on the French comic book “Le Transperceneige”, looks like a pretty interesting time.
Even though, yes, the whole separated class foundation of the movie is a tad too on the nose. As in, sledgehammer to the face obvious. But hey, here’s hoping the action in this thing is at least deserving of the big-budget and name cast Bong has gotten himself. Not a bad way to jump-start your International movie career if you can get’em, I always say.
Check out some concept artwork from the film, which makes that whole “separated class” on the train thing overly obvious. The shot of the train, the “snow piercer” of the title (though curiously the title has now gotten rid of the space between “snow” and “piercer”), is pretty rad. So the whole movie is this lone train just going ’round and ’round the planet, with all the survivors on board?
I told you this thing had the makings of a pretty interesting time.
The cast includes Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Song Kang-ho, John Hurt, Alison Pill, Octavia Spencer and Ewen Bremner. No word on a release date yet, so 2013 or thereabouts.
