I have to admit, I was starting to like the idea of Emily Blunt as the Black Widow in “Iron Man 2″. There’s something about her, that I think she could kill in the role. Apparently I might have been too premature, as now it’s looking more and more likely that Blunt’s schedule might not allow her to star in the comic book sequel and “Gulliver’s Travels” at the same time. While all parties involved appear to want to make it work, word from Entertainment Weekly is that the studio has begun looking for a possible replacement. Scarlett Johansson’s name has come up as a result.
Marvel will not confirm, but sources around Hollywood say Johansson has indeed met with the filmmakers and is interested in taking the role of Russian superspy Natasha Romanoff, who doubles as Black Widow. Blunt’s reps are still trying to make both projects work, but Gulliver’s is further along, with a start date of April 15. Iron Man 2 still doesn’t have a shooting script and a start date has not yet been determined.
As always, when a site quotes “sources” without giving out a name, it could be anyone from the janitor to the studio head, so take this for what you will.
In any case, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow? I personally don’t see it. I can’t see Johansson in such a physically demanding role, for one. But of course, if Johansson does go for and gets the role, she’s a good enough actress, and some time in the gym could knock those curves into shape…
