Bond’s Marc Forster Wants to Die Bad
Die Bad (Remake) Movie — By Nix on November 6, 2008
Marc Forster has already said that he doesn’t want to return to direct the next Bond movie, despite having been offered the job evenl before his sure-hit “Quantum of Solace” arrived in theaters. Apparently it’s THAT good. So, if not Bond, then who? How about yet another remake of a South Korean action movie called “Die Bad”. Yes, another remake. Because, you know, apparently there aren’t enough working screenwriters in America with the brain cells to come up with an original story idea, Hollywood has to reach back to 2000 for a movie that no one has even heard of.
So what’s it about? Reuters knows:
The original film, released in 2000, centers on a set of interlocking stories featuring a gangster and gang violence in South Korea. The Universal Pictures remake will be set in the United States.
Of course it will be set in the United States. Where would it be set, in South Korea? Otherwise, why remake it in the first place? Stupid Reuters.
Here’s another description of the original from someone at IMDB.com:
“Die Bad” is an inventive feature made up of four distinct episodes, each with their own style. With their criss-crossing characters and themes, they add up to a fairly comprehensive account of the causes and effects of male aggression, both tribal and individual.
The original was written and directed by Seung-wan Ryoo, who seems to have a thing for movies where guys beat the crap out of each other in the big city. Some of his titles include the CGI-heavy martial arts actioner “Arahan”, the bash’em til they scream uncle “Crying Fist”, and the violent city flick “City of Violence”.
Below: No, I said, “Die Bad“, not “Die Hard“.
