The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) Movie DVD/Blu-ray Combo Pack Cover

Bilbo, Gandalf, and those pesky Dwarfs will be coming home in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” on Blu-ray Combo Pack on March 19, 2013, but they’ll be available for download a week earlier than that (and on HD) on March 12, 2013 courtesy of MGM and Warner Home Video.

Besides the movie itself, you’ll also get an early sneak peek at the upcoming second film in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” on March 24, 2013 when you buy the film at select digital retailers.

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome Dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the Wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of 13 Dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild, through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins, Orcs and deadly Wargs, as well as a mysterious and sinister figure known only as the Necromancer.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the Goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities…A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Felt like I just saw this in the theater and its coming out already? Anyone have 3D at home? I can’t imagine it being all that good.

I may have to finally spring for that 3D capable blu-ray player and some glasses when this thing comes out.

    • Aegon the Conqueror

Yes Tim, it’s that good! Best 3D feature I have ever seen!

Will wait for inevitable extended edition.

    • http://www.grifiti.com Tin Hoang

Same. Director’s cut, extended, blah blah blah.

    • ErickKwon

The theatrical cut already felt like one of the extended cuts. Can’t imagine what more could be added without taking away from the quality.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Theatrical cuts of LoTR were 2.5 hours too, still ended up with extended cuts. But you never know. If there isn’t one i’d still be happy.
