Brad Pitt as Thor: What Do You Think?
By Nix | May 14, 2008 (1:50 pm) | More: Comic Book Movie News, Featured, Thor (2010) Movie
Forget for one moment that Marvel’s announced “Thor” movie no longer has a director, or even a star except a rumor about Brad Pitt being offered the role. What it does have is a sorta finished script by Mark Protosevic (”I am Legend”). Now forget all that stuff, and just concentrate on this question: Rumor has Marvel pursuing Brad Pitt to play the role of the Asgardian God of Thunder, Thor. What do you think about this potential casting?
For it, against it, don’t care?
And if not Brad Pitt as Thor, then who?

How about the guy from Adventures in Babysititng?
I think HHH would a great Thor he has the size and the long hair, he would be the best choice.
dude, that’s what I said! HHH is badass!
Triple H would be the perfect person to play Thor he has the size and has already proven himelf in the ring as King of Kings .
I thought that too. So I TOTALLY agree, but my only question is: Will he be a good enough actor to pull it off?
I think Thomas Jane would make a good Thor.
Nice choice but far too expensive. Better use a Nobody or Karl Urban (pathfinder), at least the studio can afford to keep him under contract for 2 or more sequels and an Avenger-movie.
Since I saw this I have been thinking of actors to play the role. The first actor I thought would be Sean Bean, the actor who played Boromir in the lord of the rings. Another choice would be the actor who played Boromir’s brother. His role in “300″ identified himself as a strong bid for a role of such a level. I as well thought Paul Levesque, HHH, was a good choice. One of the three I believe would be the best physical fit for Thor, Sean Bean being #1. Brad Pitt is expensive and would be a better fit for a smaller Marvel Superhero.
Do not get a wrestler to play the awesome and powerful Thor. We all know that wrestlers are definitely in good shape, but lack the acting abilities it would take to play such an internally conflicted superhero as Thor. I mean, even Dwayne “the rock” Johnson is a mediocre actor at his best, and he has gotten out of wrestling for quite some time. To have a wrestler’s first movie be Thor would inevitably piss off a sizeable portion of the target audience. Brad Pitt has good acting abilities to be sure, but I believe he showed us in the movie “Achilles” that:
A)he doesn’t make a great mythical hero.
B)he is far to much of a pretty boy to play the gruff, battle-hardened part of “Thor”.
C)he is not built like the mythical Norse god of Thunder (marvel or otherwise.
Don’t get me wrong, Pitt is a strong actor. In my opinion though, you should find a new guy… slightly (if not completely) unknown… and hell, go to Norway to find him.
Triple H would make a perfect thor
If you consider that Marvel has Thor as being 6′6″ and 640lbs, I doubt Brad Pitt could pull that off. An actor who’s 6′6″ and built like Thor should weigh in the 300lbs range.
If an alter-ego is involved then Pitt could fit that part, but the cost could be prohibitive.
Are you people nuts. Pick the guy who played Sabertooth in X-Men. He has the look and size of Thor. Also my pick for Captain America would be Neal McDonough
I totally agree with you on that one. I think Newal McDonough fits the role so perfectly. also the guy who played sabertooth would be perfect to.
I posted this in a different area, but i will post it here again.
I think Viggo Mortensen would make a great Thor. He has the power in his face and he’s such a versatile actor. Or even Daniel Craig with his stone blue eyes. Ahh a younger actor Hayden Christensen could even pull it off. But any of these guys would need some serious hard training to get into shape for the look of Thor…steroids even jk jk.
And lastly Martin Henderson. Hopefully anyone making this movie takes these into consideration on there search for Thor.
I like the idea of Karl Urban as Thor. and as Chase said, Tyler Mane (Sabretooth from X-Men) would be a good choice as well. I also think the guy that played “Chupa” in Blade 2 and was in the first “The Fast and Furious” would be an excelent choice.
What about matthew mcconaughey, he would make a good thor, and would rather see him as thor than captain america (rumor he will play cap in the new movie)
For the love of Odin… DO NOT GET SOME small PRETTY BOY, LIKE PITT TO PLAY ME!!
Do not use Brad to play Thor, are you guys serious ??!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with having HHH as Thor he has a Nordic look but Brad , come on !!!!!
Brad Pitt come on the guy is not a Thor, I think HHH would be the man for the job!
They should take Arnold outta politics just to play thor
YES! My brother and I were discussing this right after seeing the Incredible Hulk movie, and we both said “Arnold Schwarzenegger!” at the exact same time.
Brad Pitt or Triple H would not make a good Thor.
Pitt is not big enough. Thor is the God of Thunder! You need someone at least 6′2″. Also you need someone who can play a pompous arrogant charismatic character. I think Pitt lacks the pompous part as you need someone on an epic scale.
As for Triple H. Yea he kinda looks the part, but you need someone that can act. Someone that has on screen presence.
Arnold could play the part. He is pompous. He is arrogant. He is big enough. or at least was all of the afore mentioned from back in his Pumping Iron days.
McCoaughey would be a terrible Thor. That’s just bad casting.
Thor is bigger than life! It will be really hard to cast the right actor for this role.
I think the combo of Triple H as Thor and wrestler Edge as his “evil” brother Loki would be perfect. Or just Edge as Thor, he looks Nordic.
This is lame…people want someone who is:
a.) Big Enough
b.) and can act
You people are gonna have to make a choice…if anyone has seen Triple H in the past 6 months (at least) they would see the pompous, arrogant, charismatic characteristics flow (that IS him)…so at least he wouldn’t need to make that much of a stretch…
brad pitt would suck how about angelina as siff actualy that may not be bad but brad pitt weak n think of this i hear avengers for 2011 so ther gonna pay robert downy jr ed norton brad pitt and whoever else theres gonna be no budget left for a movie with paying all of them i think maybe karl urban from lord of the rings for thor
ok. Brad Pitt is a great actor. He’s got blonde hair. Also, he’s not some pretty boy. Have you seen SNATCH? He’s pretty hardcore in that movie. Plus, with all they can do with computers, i think they can make him pretty buff.
I’d much rather have a computer-enhanced Brad Pitt than Triple-H. He’d ruin the movie. Nobody would take him seriously.I mean look at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Anytime he’s in a movie all you hear is giggles throughout the audience.
Also, Karl Urban? NO. You need a real actor. Robert Downey Jr. = Real Actor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man= Good Movie. Karl Urban = Unconvincing Actor, Karl Urban as Pathfinder = Dumb Movie
All I’m saying is get a good actor and size won’t matter. And Brad Pitt is a good actor.
ya but with really good actors comes really big paycheaks and lets be honest the marvel movies kinda lack story when theres alot of big budget stars just look at x men thy were good movies not great they wana do avengers so there gona have to so far put robert downy jr ed norton and lets just say brad pitt and whoever plays captain america i feel the story would lack all those actors need time on screen or else it turns into the wolverine show like xmen did not knocken pitt as an actor hes awsome playing achiles he probly could pull of thor and im sure they can buff him up but think of an avengers movie with all those guys it would suck
hulk hogan would fit.
BRAD PITT FOR THOR!!
Brad Pitt as Thor?!?! ummm…NO!
Sure, he is a good actor, even has good looks, but as Thor?!?! You HAVE TO BE KIDDING! Sure, there’s CGI to do that video magic, but the guy would have to play ALONG SIDE Iron man, Captain America, etc. in The Avengers. What? CGI that movie as well? Then there are the interviews… Hell you CAN’T CGI those and the World sees a twerp playing HUGE (6′-6″ according to Marvel) THOR, Norse GOD of Thunder!
Simply get someone who has a pretty good size (At least 6′-4″) and build who can act at least a little… sheese! They could save 10 Million dollars that could be used elsewhere by NOT having to CGI the little twerp.
I do not even care for Thor all that much, but would “Like” to see what they do. I would NOT go see it if that twerp is Thor. It would be hard enough (being a Hulk fan and all) but to sit through that little twerp playing Thor would be too much to ask! UNLIKE Hulk 1 and Iron Man (which I have seen multiple times)… it will be a BUST if that twerp is Thor. I would NOT waste my money on that twerp….and NO DVD.
Again… NO!
Did I say that he (Brad) was a twerp? No? Well, he is a twerp!
HULK SMASH!
Brad Pitt could ONLY play Donald Blake, which is Thors human disguise.Never could he BE Thor simply because Thor is too damn big and strong!!!!Thor can lift well over 100 tons according to Marvel. Can u see Brad Pitt lifting up a tank or airplane? hahahaha!!!!
What about Brad Pitt as Captain America?
Also I have read everything you guys have said about Thor and truthfully I have no idea who you can get to play him. I think if he has his own movie then it can’t be HHH. I agree I don’t think he has the acting skills to carry a movie. Any of the other actors you guys have named could pull off the acting but they can’t pull off the size and character of Thor…
The casting director will have a difficult time finding the right fit that is for sure.
I agree with the idea of Brad Pitt as Captain America rather than Thor. Also, My vote goes for Karl Urban or Craig Daniel for Thor.
Vladimir Kulich would be a great thor
I totally agree with you:o)

I agree with those who say an unknown would be best to play Thor. I’m a Brad Pitt fan but he would be better suited to play Cap than Thor. He can act but he couldn’t pull off achilles as an actor, the god of thunder is beyond his range. I love WWE as much as the next geek but casting HHH would be a disaster. Maybe he could have a role as a villain or maybe even one of the warriors three but not Thor.
I thought about the guy(s) from Lord of the Rings and they may fit economically and acting wise but I don’t think either is handsome enough to play Thor (same with HHH by the way). I think it should be some unknown from Britain. Someone with a Shakespearean background and the imposing stature.
I love Marvel but Thor has always been my favorite. Here’s to hoping Marvel will continue to get it right.
Michael O’Hearn may be a possible. check him out. I know he may be ‘Titan’ on American Gladiators, but he is better looking than HHH (no offense HHH) and have been referenced as having a body of a (get this) Greek god. Hmmm, he looks like Thor, has done some acting, how about keeping an open mind. Comments?
BRAD PITT??? THOR??? FUCK NO!!! even though he has that look, he ain’t big enough to play that role, r u fucking serious?! ok, who ever decided that brad is a good choice for the role, “UR RETARDED!!!!” pick HHH to play the damn role, he’s bigger, he looks barbaric to play the role, and in wrestling he uses a slug hammer! HHH is born to play the role! not brad pitt!!!!???
brad pits not a bad actor for the role of thor but hes not built right they should have HHH hes bigger and cmon he already carries a hammer haha
Brad Pitt would not pull off the size part hell Triple H barely pulls off the size part.HHH wont be able to carry the movie on itself but in an avengers movie where he dosnt have as much screen time would be cool.I just dont see him carrying the whole thor movie by himself. anyways get Goldberg to play thor and just give him a wig or have Gerald Butler do it and dye his hair thats what i want to see
Thor… I agree…. brad pit would suck as thor.. really believing a person could pass off as that character is just as important as the act in it self… Brad being too puny would not fit for Thor unless he gained 200lbs of muscle… HHH could pass for Thor from a distance… but when you go up close.. he’s just a meat head like the Incredible Hulk… so people won’t believe in him… the guy with the eye patch from 300 I believe would be the best out of the people you’ve mentioned… personally if I had to choose who would be Thor.. i’d first look at his traits… a chiselled chin… big arms… it would be… Karl Urban
Look at him in this picture in Lord of the Rings…
He is Thor….

Karl Urban, HHH, Brat Pitt?? Ok,.. pass the MJ. Some guy said Micheal O’Hearn aka TITAN from American Gladiators, not bad, not bad at all. He’s big, blonde, chiseled, give hime long hair and there’s your Thor!! Dont know how he acts, but it couldn’t be as bad as HHH. Brad Pitt???? GREAT IDEA!! Let’s have Screech from ‘Save By The Bell’ play Captain America. GREAT IDEA!!!
TITAN IS THE MAN!!! Look him up and tell me he dont look like THOR??
Ok, looked him up and,….. youre right, TITAN is the man!! Looks good, anybody see him act?? Wikipedia says he’s been in some movies, anybody see em??
Hey guys!! Check this out. Found this on Youtube for Micheal O’hearn.
He did an independent shorta fake trailer for DC’s ‘World Finest’ playing Clark Kent/Superman. It’s pretty cool. Gives alittle bit evidence of his acting,.. not bad. Check it out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsmqc4RhSQY
You guys have to check out Vladimir Kulich. He played Buliwyf in the 13th warrior opposite of Antonio Banderas. He was born in Czechoslovakia and he is 6′4″ and enormous. Pitt is too puny to play the great Thor.
hey guys, check out micheal ohearn in a fake trailer for DC’s World finest on youtube.com. it’s pretty cool. shows alittle that this guy can act alittle. no tony’s or oscars, but better than HHH could do and looks like Thor too.
Comment after you look at it.
go to youtube.com then type in Micheal O’hearn worlds finest.
HHH….seriously. If the Thor movie was simply a 1.5 hr long sill-frame of an actor dressed up as Thor then yea HHH is great for the part. However, the sucess of this movie, as well as the other lead-in movies to the Avengers movie, is crutial to the development of an Avengers movie. Marvel needs to hook well experienced actors who can bring depth and emotion to the characters they portray. Based on the acting success of other wrestlers (eg. the Rock and John Cena) it can be assumed that HHH also has the acting ability of a rock, and would therefor kill the character of Thor and his role in the Avengers movie.
i think for thor and captain america they should find some huge new juice head actors these characters cant be puny pretty boys,,,,,,didnt they learn with daredevil
Triple H.
Only person with the right look.
I thinking Dolph Lundgern, maybe a bit old but he is 6′4 extremely well educated. In the since that Thor needs to come across as Godly and not dumb. He is an action star and he can’t be too expensive for Thor, and the Avengers series.
I understand the temptation to use wrestlers as they clearly have the size but they are horrible actors and will make the movie a dud. Actors may be able to sell the character’s personality with out being as physically impressive as a Thunder God. Maybe they can find a nordic actor that has the size. I would hate to be the casting director on this one.
Why not have Angelina Jolie as Loki, yeah that would be great! I swear to god if they make Brad Pit Thor I will ban this movie! Hollywood needs to quit picking actors who don’t belong in certain rolls, and Brad Pit as Thor? Who ever came up with this needs to be taken outside and stoned to death.
Ralf Moeller from Gladiator would be perfect for Thor!
First and foremost…as some mentioned before…Brad Pitt is too much of a pretty boy for the role, and just to well known…on the other hand, I agree with what some others stated….wrestlers just can’t act!!…Bottom line is you need someone who can sell “The Mighty Thor” …and I think that Scottish Kevin McKidd who played Lucius Vorenus in HBO’s ROME and was rumored to be up for the role, would be a good choice….although Thor should be about 6′6 and for the sake of arguement, 300-350 pounds…and Mckidd is probably about 6′1, with computer graphics they can still get the height and bulk of Thor, it can all be done … maybe even Brendan Gleeson (Hamish from Braveheart)as Odin and can anybody see Ian McShane (Al Swearengen from Deadwood) as a Thor foe/villian?…as long as they do it right, with actors like these, it might make a big hit…
TECHNOVIKING 4 THOR! http://youtube.com/results?search_query=techno+viking&search_type=&aq=2&oq=Techn
there is only one wrestler that could pull off being Thor and it aint HHH try Kevin Nash he even looks like thor at 7 feet tall there can be no other
Although I am a firm believer that wrestlers just can’t act, without a doubt, if I had to choose one wrestler for the part of the Mighty Thor, it would definitely be Kevin Nash and not HHH. Standing at about 6’10, with his physical attributes and looks, he could pull it off quite easily. (He actually does have that Norse look about him.) The big question is if he can act the part. He didn’t really have a great role in the Punisher, but did do a decent job in the Longest Yard and showed that he could be funny as well. Maybe Kevin Nash could be the one to wield the Mighty Hammer! You’re not only going to want a good Mighty Thor, but somebody who can maybe do a sequel or two without issues and is going to fit well into the Marvel Universe. (Marvel already hinting…“What if I told you, we were putting a team together?”- (Tony Starks to General Thunderbolt Ross in the Incredible Hulk))…Hopefully they make the right choice….I think the true fans deserve it…This is one Marvel fan who’ll be looking forward to it….
by Odins’ Beard!!!
I didn’t read every comment, so apologies if someone already suggested it, besides Patrick, the first post. I agree whole heartedly that VINCENT D’ONOFRIO should reprise his Thor role from adventures in babysitting. I know he’s a lot older now, but he can’t be older than Rob Downey Jr. He could buff up, grow out the hair. He’s got the acting chops. He’s tall. I love that these roles are being given to serious actors now-a-days, don’t screw this one up. Vincent is your man!
I have been thinking about this a lot lately. TITAN (Mike O Hearn) from American Gladiators would be awesome for his role.
He can bench press 600 lbs and has experience acting.
See his IMDB info. I think he looks just like a Greek God.
Brad Pitt is just tooooo smallll!!!!!!
Brad Pitt is a phenomenal actor, I defitnitley saw him as Achilles in Troy, but I can’t see him as the Norse god of thunder Thor. Triple H has the build and he is def. one of my fav. wrestlers always has been, but he is better for cameos than a full-fledged main character role.and Arnold come on now his acting days are far behind him. I don’t think that Karl Urban is right for the part and neither is an up-and-coming-hopeful.Sean Bean wouldn’t be a bad choice he looks the part and with some training or cgi he could look like a 6′6″ 600 lb. god but we must also remember the cost of the characters especially when you do the Avengers movie. David Wenham (”Faramir” Lord of the Rings) beef him up a little a bit with some cgi because he isn’t all that tall and you have got one hell of a Thor
After reading some of the other comments I will agree that Vladimir Kulich is a great choice he looks the part if you grow out his hair and he is a decent actor You guys really should consider him. At first when I was looking around for actors who look like Thor I noticed that if you let him grow out his hair like in (3:10 to Yuma) and dye it blonde Christian Bale could be a “fallback” Brendan Gleeson should get the role of Odin hands down you guys won’t find anyone better.
Wow, Thor in the summer of 2010. They better get crackin’. I dont think we need to worry about the casting and the job they will do. Look at the first Batman, most didn’t like Michael Keaton (he’s too short, going bald, no muscles etc) but he and Burton pulled that one off nicely. Same went for Tobey Mcguire, but Spiderman was a success. All Thor needs to be is: good actor, caucasion, 5′11-6′, and not fat. Hollywood magic will take care of the rest (build, hair, eyes etc). Most of the names metioned before would be good (no HHH, acting is questionable and bit too goonish for the majestic mighty Thor)Remember, Stan Lee is on the case, he wont let you down.
HHH is a crappy wrestler and even sucks at acting on smackdown, or raw, or whichever one he was on. Always the same crap with him. He hulks out to the arena, always lookin like he’s sulking or someone stole his teddy bear, spits some water everywhere, then talks as fast as molasses going uphill in january. He sucks. Period. Can’t even use facial expressions to act.
I think Jay Cutler will be perfect as Thor
