Looks like Ryan Gosling is really finding his groove in the down-and-dirty world of moody crime cinema. First “Drive”, then “Only God Forgives” (also with his “Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn), and now “The Place Beyond the Pines”, which finds Gosling re-teaming with “Blue Valentine” director Derek Cianfrance. From the looks of it, it’s one of those no-one-gets-out-alive crime films pitting Gosling against Bradley Cooper, here playing a rookie cop whose career in law-enforcement collides with Gosling’s character’s career as a crook. Heads will butt, and motorcycles shall be ridden.
“The Place Beyond The Pines” looks like “Drive”, except instead of cars, Ryan Gosling rides a motorcycle. And has a wicked cool tat on his face.
A motorcycle stunt rider starts robbing banks to support his new family. This brings him into confrontation with a rookie police officer and begins a generational feud.
Starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Dane Dehaan, Rose Byrne, and Bruce Greenwood.
Riding into limited release on March 29, 2013.
