Comedian Brandon T. Jackson, most famous for “Tropic Thunder” and the “Percy Jackson” movies, will be giving TV a shot as the new lead in a “Beverly Hills Cop” TV series that will be based on the Eddie Murphy series of action movies of the same name.
“Beverly Hills Cop” the TV series is from “The Shield” producer Shawn Ryan and original star Eddie Murphy, and will find Jackson playing Axel Foley’s son Aaron, described as a “blue-collar police officer … who helps take down the criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills while trying to escape the shadow of his larger-than-life father.”
Murphy will be making a cameo in the pilot, if just to tie the show with the movies, and might end up doing more recurring spots if the show makes it past the pilot stage. Right now, the show just has a pilot commitment from CBS, so how long it’ll last on the network will depend on what the brass thinks of it and how it does in the ratings for its first few episodes.
Apparently it was Murphy who gave the original nod to Jackson, so that’s gotta be a major confidence builder to the tyke.
