Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul in Talks for Missionary Position

Aaron Paul in BREAKING BADNot content to just cook up and flood the streets with meth alongside his buddy Walter White, “Breaking Bad” co-star Aaron Paul is currently in talks to play the lead in a new HBO CIA-centric show called “The Missionary”.

The show is a period spy drama “set in Berlin in the late 1960s”, and would follow “a young American missionary (Paul, if he signs on) who becomes involved with the CIA”.

Obviously this is during the height of the Cold War, so expect lots of spy shenanigans and danger, plus intrigue and missionary position puns from lazy bloggers like myself.

“The Missionary” is from Charles Randolph (“The Interpreter”), who has apparently been banging away on the idea with buddy Malcolm Gladwell for some time now. The show certainly has some big names behind the scenes, with Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg signing on as producers. And given HBO’s willingness to put their money where their mouth is, you can expect a polished, expensive show.

The CIA on TV is a hot topic these days. Besides “The Missionary”, FX Channel has their own ’80s-set Soviet Spies in America show “The Americans” in the pipeline. Meanwhile, Fox is working with more current themes in two CIA-theme shows, the Ali Larter-set “The Asset” and an untitled show about a teenager who goes into the spying business.
