Breaking: Is Benicio Del Toro Preparing to Play Khan in Star Trek 2?

If so, that would be all sorts of awesome.

According to Latino Review, the “Usual Suspects” alumni will portray Khan in J.J. Abrams’ follow-up to his wildly popular “Star Trek” reboot. The aforementioned villain, of course, was portrayed by Ricardo Montalban in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”, which is really the only older “Star Trek” movie I can stomach. If anyone can bring the intensity required to make this role work, it should be Del Toro. This news is actually more rumor than fact, so expect the Hollywood machine to deny then confirm, deny then confirm several times before finally revealing the truth. Regardless of whether or not this late-night tidbit is fact or fiction, it’s still fun to pretend.

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at)

If true, I’m disappointed if only because we’re stuck waiting four years for a sequel and it’s essentially going to be a reimagining of “Space Seed.” Sure, that could kick ass, but I’m filled with a sense of “Here we go again!” along the lines of Zod in “Man of Steel.”
