Brett Ratner Confirmed for Conan Remake?

Well, as “confirmed” as you can get when an anonymous “spy” emails someone over at AICN with the news, which is to say, it’s confirmed as long as no one else comes out and confirms otherwise. I.e. No, it’s not “confirmed”, it’s just what some movie site says, which means you should take it with a grain of salt, the same grain of salt you take whenever Brett Ratner mentions he wants to direct a movie. In this case, AICN is reporting that someone without a name has told them that Ratner has been hired by Lionsgate to direct the remake of “Conan”, although according to AICN, it’s not really a remake, it’s more of a “re-imagining”, aka yet another reboot. This isn’t the first time Ratner’s name has been attached to “Conan”; last month, it was reported that Lionsgate had indeed offered the director the keys to the character.
AICN says so:
And let’s be clear… stop calling this a remake. They’re not doing the Milius film. They’re starting over from the original stories. So it’s relly wrong to call this thing a remake at all. You won’t be seeing the same story or even the same supporting characters. This is ground zero.
And now it appears to be official that Brett Ratner is directing the goddamn thing.
The AICN writer doesn’t even mention any history with his “spy”, so it could very well just be some kid in his basement who decided to experiment on the gullibility of AICN. Then again, as much as people seem to hate The Rat, he does have a history of bringing movies in on time and under budget, and movie producers love that in a director.
Could I have wished for a better director? You betcha. Then again, I wish they wouldn’t touch the friggin’ original in the first place, but you can’t always get what you want. Or at least, that’s what my girlfriend tells me. You don’t know her, she lives in Canada.
Below: “Pssst. Brett. Come closer, I got something for ya right here…”
