Brett Ratner Confirms God of War Movie
God of War Movie — By Nix on October 1, 2008
Now I don’t know if Brett Ratner is dreaming of becoming the next Uwe Boll or what, but as far as I can tell, he’s made mention that he wants to direct two movies based on videogames — “God of War” and “Guitar Hero”. When the whole “God of War” rumor surfaced a while back, it was just a rumor. Now, er, not so much. Brett Ratner has confirmed that he will, indeed, be directing a movie version of the game “God of War”, which as far as I can tell, is about some tattoo dude who, like, beats people up in Ancient Rome. Or something. Unsurprisingly, I’ve never played the game. Can you tell?
Says UGO (rather snarkily, I might add):
We caught up with him recently and confirmed either your greatest dream or biggest fear: Brett Ratner is indeed making a movie based on the video game series, God of War. Honestly, I love the Kratos games, however, they aren’t exactly the deepest when it comes to story, so he might just be the right person to handle the film adaptation.
You can see Brett Ratner talking to UGO about waiting for the script for “God of War” to be approved so he can start shooting here.
Meanwhile, here’s a little about what the game is all about:
Unleash the power of the Gods and embark on a merciless quest as Kratos, an ex-Spartan warrior driven to destroy Ares, the God of War. Armed with lethal double chainblades, Kratos must carve through mythology’s darkest creatures – including Medusa, Cyclops, the Hydra and more, while solving intricate puzzles in breathtaking environments. Driven by pure revenge, nothing can stop Kratos from achieving absolution.
The game has already spawn a sequel, the imaginatively titled “God of War 2″.

In order to have a perfect kratos i think vin diesel should play him the simple fact that he looks jus like the guy makes him perfect for the part plus hes got the attitude

i agree with DevilZKnight. What I think they should do is, take Djimon Honshou and Vin Diesel together and just make them both shout Athena!. Then whoever sounds closest to Kratos, gets the role. But thats just my opinion.
hell yeah i think ven diesel or the guy from be wolf would make a great kratos maybe even the guy from the mummy the bald guy thats my opinion
You mean Inhotep?????? You are joking right?
he’s gotta be tall loke 6′3-6′5 …goldberg’s close..vin diesel,matthew mc,but d voice shld be 90% at least
i can’t what for god of war 3 and i can;t for the movie and i think Vin Diesel should play kratos. come on people he kicked ass in riddick am i right
Ok,i must disagree here. God of War’s got more plot than many actions movies you see out there. A lot happens in the story.
Vin Deisel would make a pretty good Kratos
No, no, no, no. This movie should NOT happen. No one is good enough to play Kratos. Vin Diesel? Give me a break. He is a terrible actor. Nathan Jones? No. And for the person who recommended Brad Pitt. Have you ever played God of War?
This game should not be disrespected by making it into a film. If people want to know the story of Kratos, then I recommend playing the game.
I agree to a point. However it is a great narrative, and masterfully told. Seeing a well done version of that story (not beat for beat of course) would be awesome. Can you imagine the grandeur of the current “Clash of the Titans” with the story of GoW? But Brett Ratner having it scares me…alot. Peter Jackson? YES PLEASE! Ridley Scott? Defintiely! Louis Letteier? Well why not! But Ratner…um sorry no.
My choices for Kratos are Gerard Butler, since he already played the king of the Spartans, Leonidas in 300. My second choice is Dominic Purcell (Prison Break, Blade Trinity). He has the look but his acting needs work. Actually I have one last choice but he’s too young and needs to bulk up. Jensen Ackles from “Supernatural” has a very gruff look. Karl Urban (Pathfinder, Star Trek, LOTR Two Towers, Return of The King, Doom) would be okay too but he REALLY needs to bulk up. Vin Deisel would be ok, but I just can’t see him doing this.
Jake in Prince of Persia LOOKS just like the cover of Warrior Within. Granted he doesn’t look as surly, but I think that’s because they wanted him to resemble his “Sands of Time” personality. EVeryone bitching about white washing also has to remember these people need to be good, actors too. Casting someone cause they look the part is a mistake if they can’t act. Seriously. Everyone would hate it if they cas some unknown in the part of the Prince and he sucked, but hey at least he looked the part right?
Why don’t we contact Wesley Snipes and Bruce Willis better for the casting.
NO and DOUBLE NO!! Sorry Wesley is NOT Kratos, if you’re going to cast a black man, go with the designer’s choice of Djimon Honsou (Amistad, Gladiaotr, Blood Diamond). I’m gonna have to stick by my choices.
