Brett Ratner No Longer Directing Conan, Says Producer

Conan the Barbarian (Remake, 2010) Movie — By Nix on May 8, 2009

I kind of feel bad for poor Brett Ratner. You won’t find a more malign filmmaker whose name isn’t Uwe Boll than the Rat. It’s not like he’s a TERRIBLE director, he’s just, you know, mediocre. Anyways, according to producer Joe Gatta, who is shepherding both the Conan remake as well as the Red Sonja movie, Ratner has left the project because of “timing issues”. As a result, Gatta is now looking for a replacement, as well as still trying to find the man to fill Arnold Schwarzenegger’s shoes as the titular Conan.

Gatta tells Empire Online:

“We’re currently in the process of hiring a director,” he told us. “For the past six months we were discussing the movie with Brett Ratner, and for more timing issues than anything else we had to part ways with Brett. We all wanted him to do it, believe me; just the timing didn’t work. But you never know what can happen.”

See, this is why you shouldn’t remake “Conan” in the first place. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the original movie still works today. Go back and clean up a couple of special effects scenes ala the “Star Wars” films, and you can release the movie into theaters today and very few people would know it was made in 1982.

But in any case, so there you have it. Brett Ratner is off the “Conan” remake.

Below: Like fellow adventurer Indiana Jones, Conan has developed a very negative attitude towards snakes.
