Brian Cox Will Terrorize Innocent Apes Before They can Rise

“X-Men 2″ villain Brian Cox is set to play the bad guy once more, this time for his “The Escapist” director Rupert Wyatt in Fox’s upcoming “Planet of the Apes” prequel, “Rise of the Apes”. The film will find Cox playing the villainous owner of a primate sanctuary who runs the facility without compassion for the animals that live there. Looks like ol Brian ain’t gonna like it when the apes go nuts and take over the planet.

Cox will be joining a cast that includes James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow and Andy Serkis, who will be providing the movements for the film’s lead ape, Caesar, who in the film leads an ape rebellion that eventually consumes the planet.

New Zealand’s WETA special effects house will be taking care of the movie’s photo-realistic apes as opposed to humans in costumes, a first for the franchise.

“Rise of the Apes” is due out June 24, 2011.

Did I mention Freida Pinto was in this thing as the love interest? Cause, you know, she is.
