Brian De Palma’s The Fury on the Remake Block

The Fury (Remake 2009) Movie — By Nix on April 24, 2008

I’ve heard a lot about Brian De Palma’s “The Fury”, a 1978 movie about people with telekinetic powers, but never actually saw the whole thing. I did recall seeing it one night, very late at night, but never finished it, which is a shame, as the premise really sounds good and right up my all. But all I could remember from what little I saw was Kirk Douglas trying to find his missing son, who had been captured by the Government to use as a weapon, or some such. You know, Secret Govenrment Experiment stuff. In any case, Fox 2000 is planning a remake, and have tapped scribes Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman to rewrite it.

Variety:

New version will center on a young man with heightened kinetic powers who is abducted by the government in order to take advantage of his special gifts.

Original, starring Kirk Douglas and John Cassavetes and released by 20th Century Fox, was based on John Farris’ 1976 novel of the same name.

Ted Field and Mike Weber will produce the remake.
