Brian Taylor, one half of the duo responsible for the “Crank” franchise and the upcoming “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” (along with his insane partner in crime Mark Neveldine), will be going it solo for the first time after signing on to write and direct a movie based on the “Twisted Metal” videogame franchise.
Taylor is getting a sweet 7-figure deal for the movie. Not a bad gig if you can get’em.
“Twisted Metal”, from Sony Computer Entertainment, first introduced vehicle mayhem to the world in the mid-90s, and has spawn over a half dozen sequels since. Basically, you ride around in a car pimped out with various deadly arsenals and try to destroy the other guy in one of those tournament deals. There is usually a storyline with each installment, but obviously that isn’t nearly the point.
From the guy who gave us the “Crank” series and “Gamer”, a “Twisted Metal” movie is obviously in Taylor’s wheelhouse. This won’t mean he’s dumped his partner, just that for this one he’ll be calling all the shots himself.
