The live-action adaptation of Warren Ellis’ comic book “Red” is moving closer toward production with news from The Hollywood Reporter that Bruce Willis is currently in talks to play the lead in the spy/action movie. The talk has been going on for a while, apparently, and Willis’ people have made a counter offer to the producers at Summit Entertainment. So it sounds like he’s definitely interested, and the producers should say Yes, because Willis in the role is perfect casting.
In “Red,” Willis would portray a former black-ops agent who has gone into retirement but is forced back into action when a high-tech assassin comes a-callin’ to threaten him and his girlfriend. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing, and Erich and Jon Hoeber are writing the screenplay, which is based on the WildStorm/DC Comic.
Tell me that’s not a role Willis was born to play, especially in recent years. It’s basically the role he played in the last “Die Hard” movie, to be honest with you, so Willis and a “Red” movie should be a perfect fit.
If Willis does sign on the dotted line, word is “Lethal Weapon’s” Richard Donner is on the top of the list to helm the flick. Donner and Willis last worked together on the actioner “16 Blocks”.
