Bruce Willis to Star in Sci-Fi Thriller The Surrogates

The Surrogates (2008) Movie — By Nix on November 18, 2007

Science fiction movies are hard to come by nowadays, which is why I always pay more attention to them than I would your average Hollywood move announcement. The latest is “The Surrogates”, which Bruce Willis has signed on to star. The film has a novel premise: In the future, people interact through robots that are more attractive versions of themselves. Geez, I wish I had one of those during all those dates that never went anywhere. Oh well. Willis’ deal to star in “The Surrogates” comes after his starring turn in Oliver Stone’s “Pinkville”, his third tour of duty through the Vietnam War (the guy is a little obsessed with it, if you can’t tell) fell through.

More about “The Surrogate” from Variety:

“The Surrogates” is being produced by Mandeville’s David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, along with Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks.

Story is set in the near future, where humans live in isolation and interact vicariously through surrogate robots who are better-looking versions of themselves. Willis plays a cop who, through his surrogate, investigates the murders of others’ surrogates. The cop is forced to venture from his own home for the first time in years and unravels a conspiracy.

The film will be directed by Jonathan Mostow, who is re-teaming with the writing duo of Michael Ferris and John Brancato, who last wrote Mostow’s “T3: Rise of the Machines”, and who will be returning to Terminator territory with “Terminator Salvations: The Future Begins”, which is scheduled to be ruined — er, I mean, directed by McG.

The studio is looking at an early 2008 start for “The Surrogates”.
