Is it too much to ask the Powers That Be to kill off Mary Jane and replace her with Gwen Stacy in “Spider-Man 4”? Too much? Darn. Anyways, if they wanted her back, Bryce Dallas Howard (who played the spunky Gwen Stacy in “Spider-Man 3”) has said that she would come back “in a heartbeat”. Alas, no one has told her when “Spider-Man 4” will go into production, or if it’ll even get made. But of course we all know it’ll get made. You would have to drop an asteroid on Hollywood to keep them from churning out another installment in a sure money maker like the Spidey franchise. And even then, they’d probably still find a way to crawl out of the rubble and make the sequel anyways.
Here’s what Howard told MTV when asked about Spidey 4:
“You know, honestly, I would love to be apart of any continuation of the franchise. But, I also really understand that there’s so many different story lines that the fans are really excited to see, and the studio, and the producers, and the filmmakers really need to appease everyone,” the actress said. “Whether or not Gwen Stacy comes back, I mean, I wish it was up to me, but it’s not. But yes, if they’d call me, I’d be there in a heart beat.”
Let’s see: a dour, constantly frowning Mary Jane or a bubbly, smoking hot Gwen Stacy? Yeah, hard to choose there, “Spider-Man 4” writers. I don’t care how “Spider-Man 3” ended, just find a way to replace Kirsten Dunst with Bryce Dallas Howard, or I’m not going to go see your movie.
Okay, okay, I’ll still go to see your movie, but I won’t be happy about it. Mostly.
