Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal in Talks to Headline Frank Darabont’s L.A. Noir

Jon Bernthal in The Walking Dead TV Series WARNING: The below story features speculation about “The Walking Dead” that may be considered SPOILERS.
Well, I guess now we know who that “Frank Darabont loyalist” was that threatened to walk off “The Walking Dead” in the aftermath of Darabont’s firing by the suits at AMC last year. It’s most likely Jon Bernthal, who plays the quick-trigger Shane on the zombie show.

As you’ll recall, last year it was revealed that an actor on “The Walking Dead” was making a big stink about Darabont’s shocking exit from the show. The stink was big enough that the actor demanded his walking papers, and it seemed as if AMC was happy to oblige. The actor then changed his mind, but unfortunately for him, AMC didn’t, and reports had his death still in the cards.

Originally, most people (myself included) thought it was either Laurie Holden (Andrea) or Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale), two actors who have worked with Darabont in multiple past films, and as a result would feel a lot of affinity for the director. I certainly never thought it was Bernthal, who has never worked with Darabont until “The Walking Dead”.

Turns out, it’s probably Bernthal. Especially in light of this news that the actor is currently in negotiations to star in Darabont’s new period crime show on TNT, “L.A. Noir”. After all, you don’t start negotiation for a new show if you still have a show.

In “L.A. Noir”, Bernthal would play “Joe Teague, the Los Angeles cop at the center of the show that examines corruption in the LAPD and ties between police and underworld figures in the 1940s and ’50s.”

Now the question is, how long before Shane gets eaten/shot, and who will do the honors? I’m kinda hoping it would be Dale, in a dramatic, epic battle between the old fart versus the young buck. Of course, this being “The Walking Dead”, Shane will probably just get eaten by a stray zombie.

Well, you don´t dance around the news or care about spoilering a major death in a popular tv-series, do you? Hovewer the death of the shane-character was overdue and the writers couldn´t possibly crank up the tension between him and the other characters for another season. Good to know that he´s offered a big role, ´cause Bernthal did a good job bringing the character to live and make a seemingly one-dimensional a-hole interesting.

Don’t be such a drama queen. You’ve read this site long enough to know that we don’t purposefully post spoilers in the headlines, and to imply that we do is insulting. It just seemed so obvious this time that it was pointless to hide it. In any case, if just to keep the other would-be drama queens from crying foul, I’ve altered the headline and posted spoiler warnings.

Um also, Shane is already dead in the comics. Him being alive was a major change to begin with and most people already specualted he was going to die soon anyway, it was just how.

I’d like to see Rick and Shane have an all out battle for the leadership of the group with Shane getting the upper hand. As he hovers above Rick pointing his weapon at his once best friend a single shot rings out and Shane falls to the ground. Carl, Rick and Lori’s son, puts one between his eyes. The irony being that Shane is the one that taught Carl how to shoot and told him to take care of his family.

Carl DID kill Shane in the comics! Bring it on. Let Shane finally just plain lose it. But it would have to be when Rick tells him he knows about Shane and Laurie, and then Shane just looses it thinking Rick is going to attack him when he was actually going to forgive him

      • Juggernaut

That would play out perfectly! I like the scenario, however Shane is my favorite character on the show. In that situation I’d like to think I’d be more like Rick, but deep down I know I’d be more like Shane.
