Apparently this is huge news to various non-blog sites, because EW seems very excited to have discovered that C. Thomas Howell, who has (by his own admission) a rather small part in the upcoming “The Amazing Spider-Man”, has revealed that Spidey’s big bad villain in the movie is … The Lizard.
Howell goes on to elaborate on the big villain fight and his role in the film:
I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker whose son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man and we’re on the Manhattan Bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back in a perilous situation. At the end of the movie, there is a little bit of a payback there. Spider-Man is kind of hurting and I help him. Part of the story is the nation thinks he might be a bad guy at first. They don’t know who this guy is. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. So, I pitch in and sort of help out at the end.
The Lizard aka Doctor Curt Conners was originally played by Dylan Baker in the Sam Raimi “Spider-Man” movies, but was replaced by Rhys Ifans for the Marc Webb-directed reboot.
In “The Amazing Spider-Man”, Andrew Garfield is your new arachnid crimefighter, replacing Tobey Maguire from the last three films, with Emma Stone as his new love interest, Gwen Stacy, originally played by Bryce Dallas Howard in the ill-conceived “Spider-Man 3”. No signs of Mary Jane yet, though there are still two more installments on deck…
