When we found out that former ’80s mainstay C. Thomas Howell would have a role in Marc Webb’s upcoming reboot of the “Spider-Man” franchise, the Interwebs were all in wondering just what role he would be playing, and if it would be the career-changer that he was probably hoping for. Probably not, as it turns out.
According to EW, Howell’s rep claims the actor will be playing someone named “Ray” in the movie. Yeah, not exactly a whole lot to go on there. I’m guessing it’s a cameo, or a small background role, or else the “rep” might have been a little more forthcoming in order to hype up his client’s return to A-list moviemaking and all. EW speculates that the character could be “Ray Cooper, the supposedly deceased father of Spidey’s current comic book girlfriend Carlie.”
Anyways, so there you have it. C. Thomas Howell will be playing “Ray” in the Spidey reboot. Mystery (sorta) solved.
Marc Webb’s film, starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, reboots July 3, 2012.
