Can You Remake A Van Damme Movie Without Van Damme?

Universal is reportedly working on getting a big-budget remake of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s 1994 time travel adventure “TimeCop” off the ground. That sounds good. JCVD’s career has been on a bit of an upswing the past few years, despite the fact that the turned down a role in “The Expendables”.

Apparently the project has been in development for the better part of four years, and is “finally inching forward”. There is, however, one minor twist you should be aware of.

Van Damme himself won’t be involved. Despite expressing his interest in the project, the action icon “won’t be invited back” by Universal, with the studio reportedly opting for “a major star” to headline the remake.

Ouch. That must sting a little.

Will this version of “TimeCop” have the same heart without “The Muscles From Brussels” spin kicking his way through time and doing the splits in the kitchen? Probably not. There has already been a “TimeCop” TV series and “TimeCop: The Berlin Decision” with Jason Scott Lee, and neither one was a good idea. Does this really need to happen?

Well there was a short lived tv series AND a sequel, neither of which did well. But then agian they were also low budget. The property is also had a comic written by the writer of both the original and it’s sequel.

Personally given a good story yes this could easily be a new franchise without JCVD. He was good and all, but the main character can easily be swapped out.

Well they can throw this out there and have the new generation of zombie teenagers eat it up because there’s ass kicking….completely oblivious to the fact that there was an original. Personally I’d like to see them make something else because well, remakes are as common as overdone Superhero/comic book movies nowadays and butchering the classics.

JCVD rocks! Iam so sick of the act of replacing actors for sequels. It definitely takes away something from the film. If this movie is going to be done, JCVD needs to be a part of it.
