Can You Remake A Van Damme Movie Without Van Damme?

Universal is reportedly working on getting a big-budget remake of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s 1994 time travel adventure “TimeCop” off the ground. That sounds good. JCVD’s career has been on a bit of an upswing the past few years, despite the fact that the turned down a role in “The Expendables”.

Apparently the project has been in development for the better part of four years, and is “finally inching forward”. There is, however, one minor twist you should be aware of.

Van Damme himself won’t be involved. Despite expressing his interest in the project, the action icon “won’t be invited back” by Universal, with the studio reportedly opting for “a major star” to headline the remake.

Ouch. That must sting a little.

Will this version of “TimeCop” have the same heart without “The Muscles From Brussels” spin kicking his way through time and doing the splits in the kitchen? Probably not. There has already been a “TimeCop” TV series and “TimeCop: The Berlin Decision” with Jason Scott Lee, and neither one was a good idea. Does this really need to happen?
