Captain America Movie Will Knock Your Socks Off and Other News

So I was thinking to myself the other day, “Self, what’s up with the Captain America movie”? Luckily for me, Marvel head honcho Joe Quesada was at the Big Apple Comic-Con in New York City and said this about the Captain America script (officially “The First Avenger: Captain America”):

“I’ve seen a couple of outlines and an initial screenplay, and it’s going to rock everyone’s socks off. It’s very unexpected, the kind of movie it is.”

And according to Quesada, the Captain America movie will, indeed, set up “The Avengers” movie, which would seem to indicate ol Cap ends up “iced” by film’s end.

So now that we know the script is great and tastes like strawberries, what will the movie be about? Maybe something like this:

“Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the ‘Super-Soldier Serum’ and bombarded by ‘vita-rays.’ Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and leader of the Avengers.”

The above is supposedly the plot synopsis for “The First Avenger”, but really, it sounds more like your garden variety origin of Captain America that anyone could glean from the comics. No real plot, though the fact that the film will take place during WWII is most excellent.

Expect the Star Spangled Banner to kick in Nazi teeth in 2011.

Captain America wasn't always gun-shy.

Wolverine needs to stop being involved in everything. Next thing you know, Marvel will start writing him into the Last Supper.

The original Captain America history had nothing to do with Wolverine, whatsoever. Just Cap, scientists, Nazis, and a lot of weird science. Even Cap’s original adventures only involved him, Bucky, Nick Fury, Nazis, and a lot of action. Wolverine was only written into Captain America when the Marvel writers were on their “Wolverine is a god” kick and had nothing better to do but mess with continuity yet again.

I’m hoping they actually make this movie just like the original Captain America origin and adventures. It would be a first for either Fox or Marvel Studios.

Don’t forget “The Invaders”, they had a lot to do with Cap’s original adventures. Namor and the two original human torches were a part of that although I don’t want to see too many characters in this movie because Cap needs to be the only one to shine in his first movie and it shouldn’t be cluttered. If Namor IS in this that would be awesome ,small cameos of “The Invaders” can be pit in,but in a sublte way though. Marvel Studios has to make this a “Pro-International” film but not cop-out on Cap’s American Patriotism either. If the Two Humnan Torches are in this movie, a cool way to do them would be to have one as “blue-flamed” and the other “red-flamed”. Either way this movie has to be gritty,(“Saving Private Ryan”/”Schindler’s List”/”Platoon”)but also has to be nostalgic, light and realistic like Iron Man with a little bit I mean an”ity” bit of romance and comedy. It can’t be All grit, blood, gloom, and doom.

The Invaders shouldn’t be in the movie simply because it’d be like having Cap with The Avengers before the Avengers. Namor is on track to possibly get his own movie. I do however love the Torches and you’re idea but probably won’t happen The Love/romance part should be just himleaving his girl behind and at the end she gets the letter he gives to Bucky to give to her. Who should play Bucky? I say dude from Speed Racer, Emile Hirsch. he wasn’t bad in it and looks the part.

I agree with that, I think that “The Invaders” should be in this movie but not necesarily interacting with Cap. I think that showing them on a front page of a newspaper or something is good enough. Yeah that dude Emile Hirsch does look and seem a lot like the perfect Bucky but this Bucky would have to be very different not-so much as a side-kick but rather maybe one successful small mission with him and Cap and Cap being surprised by how well Bucky handles himself on that mission.Maybe Bucky could be clumsy or comical just thought as a little comedy relief at first but actually kicks ass.

I like the idea of people thinking Bucky is this teen sidekick who i clumsy, yet it’s all a facade cause he’s really badass. That would lead to awesome situations where the future “Winter Soldier” would be showing the secret ops side too.

I was disappointed that Captain American didn’t make a cameo in Wolverine’s Origin. I mean those two fought together once, during the war.
And wolverine did go through different times in war in the movie.

The Invaders in this movie can be awesome! For example, look at the watchmen and study at least the first third of the movie. That same style of super hero nostalgia, and period film making can be used in Captain America without making it seem crammed with too many characters. Also, not many people know that Captain America’s shield is made from adamantium the same metal laced on logan’s bones. So a small 30 second reference or cameo from weapon x can be considered in the development in Cap’s shield

Hmmms. So are you saying just do a flashback sequence during the trailers, because in Watchmen the first 3rd of the movie was about buiding the characters and showing history of the Comedian trhough flashbacks. I think maybe mentioning them on a radio broadcast, seeing them in a picture in the newspaper, or on a tv would be enough without having to get into them. As for Weapon X being mentioned, not gonna happen as FOx owns X-men rights, however the shield is not just adamantium, but vibranium as well, so we could get a mention of Wakanda…and thus the Black panther. Djimon Honsou as T’Challa. It can be no one else. But Mr. Ecko from Lost can play T’Chaka his father.
