Captain America Suits up on The Avengers Set, Explosive Videos

Yesterday Chris Evans was in his Steve Rogers garb on the Cleveland set (standing in for New York City) of Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers”, and today he’s suited up as Captain America, presumably to do battle with some baddie types. Those are some spiffy looking new tights you got there, Captain.

Also, head on further below to see some explosive videos from the set of the movie. Looks like they’re blowing stuff up real good in “The Avengers”.

Evans co-stars alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg, and Cobie Smulders. Whedon directs the film, which is due out to avenge all of us May 4, 2012.

He looks pretty sweet. He looks smaller though for some reason.

Tight clothes do that. Also he’s not as big as he was for Cap, but not tiny either.

I don’t think he’s as jacked as he was in CA:TFA…..he’s got another movie coming out before the Avengers so I’m assuming he wasn’t maintaining like he was before the first film. Chris Hemsworth has SNOW WHITE coming but he’s stated in interviews that he’s been keeping up with his regiment he was on for THOR, actually going harder on it. Evans has yet to say the same thing so I think we can assume he’s fallen back a little.

The suit looks good. The new helmet/mask takes some getting used to without the chinstrap, but I love the way the shirt opens with the lapel like cut. Classic meets modern/futuristic

this is back to the modern current capt america look. I’m cool without the chin strap. He doesn’t look like my daughter riding her tricycle.

Looks terrible. I preferred the outfit in CA:TFA. He looks too small and his head looks huge!

Have to agree on all your points. I wish he would work out his neck some and build up the shoulders too. That said I’m sure this movie will deliver.

I actually really like thius new look! I was a little worried about the finished product that they used in the film not looking as much like the Comic-Con concept art rendering. It looks almost identical to that. It throws me off though. With Cap sticking so close to the concept art what are Thor and Ironman going to look like in the film? In the concept art they’re both sporting the costumes form their first solo outing (Tony with the circular arc reactor and Thor with the chainmail armort on his arms). I wish that they would have had Cap’s utility bet stand pout a bit from his pants though. Having them be red would have been a nice contrast. Other than that I think it is a great look. Helmet is cool. I’m glad they didn’t go for a cowl. Can’t wait for the movie to see it all on the big screen in all of its glory!!!

I’m digging the new look too – but I ‘d like to see the chin-strap – that’s kind of the point of a helmet! As somebody who has served in the armed forces it drives me nuts when characters in movies run around with their chin straps undone or no chin strap at all. It just makes it completely unrealistic for me as anyone who has been in combat knows A) you never take it off, B) there is no way any helmet will stay on without a strap! Granted, Cap has a face mask, but I just really dug the Ultimate Cap look with the chin strap – made him look like a real soldier and less like simply a comic book drawing. I also agree with you about the belt.

I also liked the WWII era helmet and chin strap look. Although with this film they are obviously trying to streamline his look and make it look modern but I think that Whedon is also trying to gently ease these characters into a more superhero-esque roles. Yes they were already heroes in their films but in this film I think it will elevate them to SUPER heroes. So far everything has been spot on for me as far as costume interpertations and tone in the Marvel films. This will be the real proving ground. It will be hard to keep this thing coing from cool to camp. Hopefully Whedon and co. can pull it off.
