Captain America: The First Avenger Super Bowl Trailer Kicks Some Serious Ass

Chris Evans as Captain America. Can he pull it off? Well he better, because if Evans doesn’t convince as the Cap’n, then that “Avengers” movie is gonna look mighty weak. We know Evans can do the handsome, square-jaw Steve Rogers, but can he convince in the red white and blue suit and shield? See for yourself and decide in the first-ever trailer, a quickie 30-second Super Bowl spot for Joe Johnston’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”.

Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Steve Rogers is inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, Rogers gets rejected, but later offered the opportunity to take part in a special experiment called Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers is administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by “vita-rays,” awakening from the treatment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America embarks on a war against evil.

Starring Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Toby Jones and directed by Joe Johnston.

Eat some shield July 22, 2011.

Now that’s what i’m talking about. Damn Chris hit the weights hard, i’m really impressed with the post trasformation look.

  • Juggernaut

That was exactly what I was looking for. I can’t wait for the movie to hit theaters!

  • guest

I think it would be really sweet if Logan (wolverine) made a cameo in the movie.

    • Ulik

@guest They’ve done it in the Avengers EMH animated show, they might do it in a subtle way so that Fox can’t sue Marvel for using him in the movie. There will be plenty of easter eggs though.

Cartoons are different than movies for the most part when it comes to stuff like this. Characters can pop up in other shows all the time with no repurcussions usually (DC usually has a precedent for not using characters or villains in one series if they have their own show, like Joker not showing up in JLU cause of “The Batman”), like Cap showed up int BOTH the 90′s X-men and “X-men: Evolution,” X-men and FF showed up on 90′s SPidey, and so on and so forth. But Fox , especially with “The Wolverine” in production will not allow Logan to show up in a non-Fox movie.

You’re right. But in a perfect world it would be so cool! I’m wondering who they are using from the Howling Comandoes. Obviously Dum Dum is in there. The asian guy is credited on IMDB as Jim Morita(who I had to look up on Wikipedia) and I’m not sure who the guy in the red barett is. I’m also looking forward to seeing the Invaders in there. I’m not sure how they’ll do those characters besides Bucky and Cap. Namor will be tough. In think as a stand alone film he could work, just having a cameo in this would be too corny. The Human Torch’s name and likeness is probably still tied up with Fox who did the FF movies, even though this version is an android and no relation tothe Johnny Storm character. Likewise with his young sidekick Toro. If they can possibly make two soldiers who just use those call signs or nicknames that would be enough for me.

No Namor, Torch, or Toro. I’m thinking the invaders will most likely be much like the Howling Commandos, but a more International flair. They may have Union Jack Which would be awesome, and Spitfire, and a version of the Blazing Skull (like a soldier with a flaming Skull painted on his gear or something) but Cap is the only super powered character I believe. And yes in a perfect world we’d get Logan showing up and the real Invaders.

          • Juggernaut

Union Jack and Blazing Skull both would fit well for what they’re going for with this film. I could see Spitfire in there too. Hopefully they can throw us comic fans some cameos. Even if it’s just subtle references. I was thinking of the original WWII line-up, but the whole gang could be in there at some capacity. This is going to be awsome.

You know what’s going to be awesome about this? Practical effects. No (or at least not as much) fake garbage CGI fire and explosions. Real people reacting to real effects, LOVE IT! Also, the skinny Evans is a bit ridiculous, they didn’t need to go THAT skinny.

    • Pintnoir

In the Jack kirby comics from the 40′s he was that skinny.

I figured as much, I haven’t read the comics. It just looks fake and goofy on screen is all.

  • Thescowl

I think they had to go that skinny because he was rejected for poor shape. If he had more weight he would not be rejected.

I love the trailer and look forward to watching it.

  • Whohar99

And the naysayers retract their hatred. LOL. This looks sweet. Cap looks great. Skinny Steve Rogers was awesome, the Howling Commandos look great (and gritty) and loving the Red Skull!!! Seriously!! Best translated comic villain yet.
