Well, that was fast. Joe Johnston’s enjoyable comic book flick “Captain America: The First Avenger” has already secured a release date on Blu-ray, DVD, and, yes, 3D Blu-ray. You know, for those of you with an insane amount of money to throw around. The movie will arrive on October 25th, 2011, much sooner than I think anyone had anticipated. However, I’m not going to complain, as I’m anxious to watch the film in the cozy confines of my suburban home.

Regarding special features, you get:

* Commentary with Joe Johnston, cinematographer Shelly Johnson and editor Jeffrey Ford
* Outfitting a Hero
* The Assembly Begins
* Howling Commandos
* Heightened Technology
* The Transformation
* Behind the Skull
* Captain America’s Origins
* Deleted Scenes
* Marvel One Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer
* The Avengers Animated Series trailer

Author: Todd Rigney

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at)

    While I’m not in anyway going to pretend I’m not going to buy this… I will say that I was fairly disapointed with the film as a whole. Maybe I got all over hyped, but I came out feeling very under-whelmed.

    My main question – why was it set in WWII?? Other than the fact that it fit in with the character’s story did that historical fact have any bearing on the film? The Nazi’s were a non presence (the Hydra threat was dumb in my view because apparently even with tanks the size of houses and weapons that could vaporize people they got wiped out in a matter of months!), and the film consistantly avoided the limitations of WWII tech. (both sides were using video surveillance, mini subs, etc.).

    I don’t like to be a stick in the mud, but I think it’s sad that after watching that I still open up my Ultimates vol.1 to see the cinematic version of Cap.
