Chris Evans, the heroic star of “Captain America: The First Avenger” and Johnny Storm in the “Fantastic Four” movies, will be putting on his bad guy hat for Ariel Vromen’s mob hitman movie “The Iceman”.
Evans joins Michael Shannon, who is playing the titular Iceman, real name Richard Kuklinsk, a suburban dad and dedicated family man who also killed for the mob. He is said to have over 100 notches on his gun. The guy was so ruthless that at one point he supposedly froze one of his victims for two years in order to disguise the time of death. Now that’s dedication to your craft!
Evans will play Shannon’s mentor Robert Pronge, which probably means he’ll appear early in Kuklinsk’s life for those mentoring sessions, since last I check, Shannon was way older than Evans. Evans replaces James Franco, who ditched on the Millennium Films/Nu Image film earlier.
The movie, to be directed by Vromen, will be based on the book by Anthony Bruno called “The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer”. This is actually the second film based on Kuklinsk, with another version supposedly starring Mickey Rourke announced last year. My guess is that that one is dead, or dead-ish.
Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ray Liotta, and David Schwimmer are also in the cast. Production commences sometime next month.
