Empire Online reports that Carla Gugino, who can currently be seen busting balls on the show “Entourage”, has landed a role in Zack Snyder’s much-anticipated movie adaptation of Alan Moore’s “Watchmen”. Gugino will play Sally Jupiter, who was the movie’s first Silk Spectre superhero; later, Jupiter’s daughter would assume the mantle. Gugino joins a cast that already includes Billy Crudup (as Dr. Manhattan), Matthew Goode (as Ozymandias), Jackie Earle Haley (as Rorschach), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (as The Comedian), and Patrick Wilson (as Nite Owl).
The titular Watchmen were preceded by a group called The Minutemen, one of whom was Jupiter, a burlesque dancer, who took the hero name Silk Spectre. When she reaches an age where tights are better suited to holding in your varicose veins than keeping you unrestrained for crime-fighting, she retires and her moniker is later taken by her daughter. Gugino will play the role through various time periods, ageing as necessary.
I’ve always loved Carla Gugino, so this is a nice addition to an already impressive sounding movie. Snyder sure is doing everything right with this one. Damn, could it get any better? Well yes, as long as they keep the poodle haircut out of it, but since Snyder is known for his faithfulness to the original, Carla is gonna be sporting one uuuuuuuuugly haircut.
