A trio of casting news today, starting off with former “Lost” and “G.I. Joe” star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje joining the cast of Paul W.S. Anderson’s historical action/romance “Pompeii”.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje joins Kit Harington, Kiefer Sutherland and Emily Browning on the film, which is “set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79 and tells the tale of an enslaved gladiator — played by Harington — who faces the tyrant (Sutherland) who years before murdered his family and now threatens to steal his lover (Browning). Jared Harris, Carrie-Anne Moss and Joe Pingue round out the cast.”
Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play “an enslaved gladiator who becomes friends with Harington’s character.”
Over at monsterland, you can add Sally Hawkins to the cast of Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla”, the latest Hollywood take on the venerable Japanese monster.
Hawkins joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Brian Cranston and Juliette Binoche on the movie. She will play a scientist on the film, and, well, that’s pretty much all we know about her, which is par for the course with this film.
It’s all very super duper secret or sumthin’.
“Godzilla” is expected to breathe fire in theaters this May 16, 2014.
And finally, Bradley Cooper has ridden to the rescue of the Natalie Portman Western “Jane Got a Gun” after the film lost its director (eventually replaced), then lost its villain.
Cooper will play the film’s new villain after Jude Law hopped out of the saddle.
“Jane Got a Gun” will star Portman as “a woman who asks an ex-lover for help in order to save her outlaw husband from a gang which is out to kill him.”
Joel Edgerton is playing the ex-lover.
Gavin O’Connor (“Warrior”) is directing the film, taking over after original director Lynne Ramsay bailed on it last week.
