“30 Days of Night” has been billed as a new take on the Vampire movie. After watching it, the only ‘new’ element I can identify is that the vampires are full-on bad guys this time around. None of that tortured soul, conflicted motivations, touchy-feely nonsense. Just hard core, mean spirited blood sucking and mutilation. Sounds good, right? A horror movie that actually has detestable bad guys. That paints in black and white rather than shades of grey. A purveyor of old-school ultra-violence for the Type-A personality. Well, in theory, yes. But theory and reality are often quite different.
“30 Days of Night” is the sophomore effort from director David Slade, who’s debut feature, “Hard Candy,” was a wicked, if overly ambitious, little psychological thriller. In “30 Days of Night,” he’s gone fully main stream with a fairly formulaic vampire romp. The film begins with a few informative notes about the [...]

Having to live and work in Alaska is probably sucky enough, but then you have vampires on your ass. Making matters even worst, you can’t just wait the bastards out, either, since they have 30 days of continuous night to get at you. Kinda sucks being Josh Hartnett and Melissa George, the stars of “30 Days of Night”, the vampire horror movie adapted from the comic book of the same name. It’s one of those vampire movies that has the makings of a really good genre flick as long as they don’t skimp on the goodies — blood, violence, and hey, a little T&A is always appreciated by the genre fans.
In Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost town in the U.S, the winter sun sets and does not rise for 30 days and nights. From the darkness comes an evil force that strikes terror on the town, and all hope is pinned on a husband-and-wife cop team.
Starring Josh Hartnett, Melissa George, [...]

“The Kingdom”: A third trailer has been added to Apple’s Quicktime movie trailers page for Peter Berg’s Middle East political actioner. I haven’t seen it, because I really want to save up the surprise for the actual movie. Berg + Foxx + Garner = Good stuff. Berg + Guns + Garner Holding Machineguns = Damn I gotta see this. Head over to Apple here for the trailer in glorious Quicktime. “The Kingdom” opens September 28th.
“Rush Hour 3″: The Chinese Government has just cost Jackie Chan millions of dollars by banning the film from the country. Their explanation: “‘Rush Hour 3′ will not be shown in China. We think it will not be popular in China,” Xiao Ping, a VP at China Film Group’s import and export arm, said Thursday. Geez, couldn’t they at least TRY to come up with a better lie? The biggest loser is Jackie Chan and his millions of fans in China, but mostly Jackie Chan, whose [...]

Finally, after what seems like years (although I’m sure it hasn’t been years), the people behind “30 Days of Night” have finally gotten off their ass and gotten to work about promoting their blasted movie. Besides bringing the movie’s official site live (here), they have also posted a trailer for it online. Except, um, it’s a link to IGN, which is hosting the trailer over at their site (see trailer below). It’s kind of weird, actually. Can’t they afford to host the trailer on their site? But anyways.
The trailer for “30 Days of Night”, which looks very good:

Josh Hartnett and Melissa George saves our butts from icy vampires October 19th, 2007, just in time for Halloween. Coincidence?

Is this the one-sheet poster (bigger version below) for the vampire movie “30 Days of Night”? I don’t know, and neither does Bloody-Disgusting, who found it on the Myspace site of “30 Days of Night” original creator Steve Niles. Whether it is or not, it sure looks cool. Then again, I’m a sucker for vampire movies, and one set in Alaska? Sounds like “The Thing” crossed with “Vampires”, actually, which is a very good thing indeed.
Set in the isolated town of Barrow, Alaska, in the extreme northern hemisphere, which is plunged into complete darkness annually for an entire month. When most of the inhabitants head south for the winter, a mysterious group of strangers appear: bloodthirsty vampires, ready to take advantage of the uninterrupted darkness to feed on the town’s residents. As the night wears on, Barrow’s Sheriff Eben (Josh Hartnett), his estranged wife Stella (Melissa George), and an ever-shrinking group of survivors must do anything they can to last [...]
