Who says you can’t have Christmas in November? Not Jim Carrey and director Robert Zemeckis. The duo’s CG take on the timeless “A Christmas Carol” took the top spot at the box office in its debut, knocking last week’s champ, Michael Jackson’s “This is it” of its perch to second place. “Carol” took in $31 million in its debut, good enough for first place, but not quite as spectacular as expected, given the film’s whopping $200 million budget. “This is It”, which is composed entirely of rehearsal footage starring the late Michael Jackson as he prepared for his would-be comeback concert tour, managed to hold onto second place with another $14 million, giving it a two-week domestic total of $57.8 million. The film continues to perform well overseas, already collecting $186.5 million in worldwide tickets.
Besides “A Christmas Carol”, there were four other new films at a crowded box office, with the George Clooney military satire “The Men Who Stare at [...]

The previous trailers for A Christmas Carol have, thus far, shown very little story, so it’s difficult to tell just how good the acting will actually be; we have mostly been privy to Jim Carrey screaming in horror, which doesn’t reveal much about his take on Scrooge. In the clip below (via Coming Soon), you can finally see just how the entire film begins to come together.
The first thing I noticed is just how beautiful the film looks. It occurred to me that very few CG films have actually focused on human characters; perhaps it’s easier to be emotive with exaggerated features, especially with non-human characters. But A Christmas Carol really strives for some level of fidelity to reality. CG characters now look human, and they express themselves in such detail that it’s hard to believe they’re not real.
I’m not sure about Jim Carrey’s take; he tries to disguise his voice so much that it sounds like he has a [...]

It has only been two weeks since the last trailer, which I had originally written about at the time, and already Disney has released a second official trailer for the Robert Zemeckis-directed “A Christmas Carol”. Just like the previous one, this trailer doesn’t show much of Jim Carrey either, recutting some of what we’ve already seen while expanding on other parts, but it does reveal CG that is used to great effect. Even though it might re-orient the classic novel by Charles Dickens toward more of an action film, this adaptation has the kind of adrenaline rush that a lot of good CG is known for, the kind that would be almost impossible to do with live action because everything on screen practically breaks the laws of physics.
You can watch an HD versions of the trailer on Apple’s official site. The film will be coming to theaters just in time for Halloween on November 6th, 2009.

Perhaps the cinema equivalent of "Manny being Manny" is "Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey".
Some new images, including a CGI version of Jim Carrey from his animated “A Christmas Carol” via ComingSoon and a promo clip from the movie. This thing looks pretty slick. Also, via Crave, some behind-the-scenes looks at Sam Worthington in Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of the Titans” remake.
“A Christmas Carol” stars Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Bob Hoskins, Robin Wright Penn, Cary Elwes and Fionnula Flanagan. Robert Zemeckis directs.

“Clash of the Titans” will field Danny Huston, Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Alexa Davalos, and Gemma Arterton. Louis Leterrier directs.

Here’s your first look at Jim Carrey in yet another version of “A Christmas Carol”, except this time it’s animated and directed by Robert Zemeckis, which I think should mean something, but to be honest with you, hasn’t meant very much to me since 2000’s “Cast Away”. Anyways, Jim Carrey does look appropriately, er, Charles Dickish in the poster. No doubt he’ll be good in the role, too. The credits has him doing a ton of voices, including Ebenezer Scrooge and all the ghosts that visits the old bugger.
An animated retelling of Charles Dickens classic novel about a Victorian-era miser taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions.
Starring Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Robin Wright Penn, Colin Firth, Cary Elwes, Molly C. Quinn, Fionnula Flanagan, Bob Hoskins, and Daryl Sabara. Robert Zemeckis (”Beowulf”) directs.
Seasons humbugging November 6.

Gary Oldman, aka one of the best actors working today, if not the best, has joined the cast of Robert Zemeckis’ CGI/motion-capture (or whatever the heck you want to call it) animated version of the Christmas classic “A Christmas Carol”. He joins Jim Carrey, who will be playing Ebenezer Scrooge and, according to IMDB.com, the Christmas spirits who visits him, in the movie.
According to the boys at Monsters and Critics, Oldman will be playing multiple roles in the movie, one of which could be Jacob Marley. For Oldman, doing voice work on one of these movies must seem like a cake walk compared to all the prep work he does for his live movie jobs.
Robert Zemeckis seems to have become latched onto the whole 3D/motion-capture industry. This will be his third, following “The Polar Express” with Tom Hanks, “Beowulf” with Angelina Jolie, and now, “A Christmas Carol”.
Other famous names attached to the film include Tom Hanks and Michael J. [...]

(Article by Tom G.) I believe this was rumoured a few days ago, when Bob Hoskins decided to spread early Christmas cheer, by announcing Robert Zemeckis’ latest project (the interesting thing is Bob Hoskins is not officially signed up to be in the film, so maybe he’s just excited for pal, or desperately wants a role…but the fact he broke the story early, doesn’t look too good for him!).
Anyway, by using the same state of the art technology which created an extremely creepy CGI Tom Hanks in Polar Express, Zemeckis is conjuring up a new version of A Christmas Carol for Walt Disney Pictures (because clearly all the other 20 or so adaptations of the story didn’t quite get the message across).
And the star is none other than Jim Carrey, an actor who I absolutely love and who pains me every-time he accepts a really bad role in a film. What troubles me about this movie in particular, is that [...]
