Here’s your DVD and Blu Ray details for Paramount Home Entertainment’s upcoming release of “The Uninvited”. The DVD hits stores April 28th and stars Emily Browning as Anna, a girl who is driven by her mother’s ghost to investigate her untimely death. She suspects the stepmother, played by Elizabeth Banks, who is just way too pretty and too good in comedies to be a murderer. But hey, if the ghost says so, then it must be true, right? We all know ghosts don’t lie.
Here is your PR and specs from Paramount Home Entertainment. Yeah, not much there at all.

Is Elizabeth Banks really capable of playing an evil stepmother? Hey, why not, if I can buy Britney Spears as a wannabe pop singer on the road to discovery in “Crossroads”, I can pretty much buy anything. MTV has a clip featuring Elizabeth Banks, playing the evil stepmother in question, who hints at using a pearl necklace as a weapon to strangle her stepdaughter. I personally think the stepdaughter has it coming. What’s she doing, snooping around her hot stepmom’s fabricated past? The gall!
Anna Rydell returns home to her sister (and best friend) Alex after a stint in a mental hospital, though her recovery is jeopardized thanks to her cruel stepmother, aloof father, and the presence of a ghost in their home.
Starring Emily Browning, Elizabeth Banks, Arielle Kebbel, and directed by the brothers Charles and Thomas Guard.
Get disininvited January 30, 2009.

A mentally unstable girl, her even more unstable big sister, an evil step mom, a seemingly uncaring dad, and a ghost in the house. Yup, it’s not a good time to be Emily Browning, who stars in “The Uninvited” as a young girl who returns home from a recent stay at a mental institution only to find that things are not all right at home. Did I mention there was a ghost running around the place? Yeah, that’s definitely not gonna help. “The Uninvited” is scheduled for an early 2009 release, but we have a new batch of images from the film for you.

I don’t know what’s funnier — that Elizabeth Banks, star of “The 40-Year Old Virgin” and Kevin Smith’s upcoming “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” is playing a creepy step-mom with murderous intentions, or that, for those who have seen the original, the trailer really does a great job of presenting its red herring. But perhaps I’ve said too much, so at the risk of ruining the film’s surprise twist for you (assuming, of course, that the remake uses the same ending as the original), I’ll say no more. In any case, here’s the trailer for “The Uninvited”, the new horror film from Dreamworks, a remake of the South Korean horror flick “A Tale of Two Sisters”.
Based on Kim Jee-Woon’s 2003 Korean horror film, “Changhwa Hongryon,” The Uninvited revolves around Anna (Emily Browning), who returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother.
It’s been a while since we heard anything about Charles and Thomas Guard’s “The Uninvited”, their American remake of the South Korean horror film “A Tale of Two Sisters”. (Here’s a bit of trivia: “The Uninvited” was also the title of another South Korean horror movie from 2003 starring Ji-hyun Jun, which came a year before “A Tale of Two Sisters”. Stick that in your bun and smoke it.) The latest from the movie, which is now set for a January 2009 release date (should we be worried about all the delays for this one? probably), is the film’s first movie poster. It looks very nice, very creepy, and very generic. But generic says nowadays, so why tool around with what works. Am I right or am I right?
Based on a 2003 Korean horror film ‘Janghwa Hongryeon’ which is based on a classic Korean folk tale infused with ’70s British horror. The DreamWorks version centers on modern-day teenage sisters Anna [...]

According to the ghouls at Fangoria, Charles and Thomas Gaurds’ remake of Kim Ji-woon’s “A Tale of Two Sisters” (since retitled “The Uninvited”, not to be confused with another South Korean horror movie of the same name) has gotten bumped from its 2008 release date for a new bow — January 30, 2009. This means the movie will be going up against other totally unnecessary horror remakes, including reboots of “Hellraiser”, “My Bloody Valentine”, “Friday the 13th”, and whatever else Hollywood is currently remaking from their stable of ’70s and ’80s horror movies.
Obviously it’s never a good sign when a movie gets delayed, but worst when you’re slotted in January, infamous for being the dumping ground for movies that studios have little hope for.

This is actually not a bad idea: the powers that be have decided that the title of their horror remake of “A Tale of Two Sisters” (called likewise in the American version) is not scary enough, so they’ve changed the title to “The Uninvited”. Which, for Asian movie watchers out there, is also the title of another 2003 South Korean horror movie starring Jeon Ji-Hyun as a woman who (what else?) sees ghosts. No official announcements have been made on the change of title yet. Plus, IMDB.com still lists the movie as being called “A Tale of Two Sisters”.
Word of the retitling comes from Fangoria, so you can blame them if it turns out to be wrong.

As a matter of principle, I’m not into a lot of the Hollywood remakes of Asian movies. Especially when it comes to Asian horror movies, because invariably you, the American consumer, is getting a remake of an original that was little more than a rehash of the same-o same-o to begin with. If you’ve seen enough Asian horror movies as I have, you’ll come to realize that they’re all identical to the American Slasher genre — long hair ghost chick who likes to show up in the background and scare the crap out of people. But there is something different about the South Korean horror movie “A Tale of Two Sisters” (read our review of the original here). It’s not your traditional Asian horror movie, and I am intrigued at the idea of a remake.
Courtesy of IESB, two images of the film have surfaced, featuring co-stars Emily Browning and Arielle Kebbel, who plays the two sisters of the title.

Actresses Arielle Kebbel and Emily Browning have joined the cast of the upcoming American remake of the South Korean horror movie “A Tale of Two Sisters”, reports Variety. They will be joining David Strathairn and Elizabeth Banks, who were cast previously as the step-mother and father characters. Although the trade doesn’t mention who Kebbel and Browning would be playing, going by the two women’s age, it’s a good bet they’ll be playing the “two sisters” of the title, although this would make the American sisters a tad older than the original Korean sisters, but I’m sure that’s creative license for ya.

The DreamWorks version centers on modern-day teenage sisters Anna and Alex Rydell who return home from a mental hospital only to find their recovery unraveling because of a cruel stepmother, clueless father and a lingering ghost.
No word on who will play the twins, but I still recommend the Olsen Twins. Come on, they’re creepy as hell!

Also from the Hollywood Reporter comes news that Elizabeth Banks will play the female lead in the upcoming Hollywood remake of the South Korean horror movie “A Tale of Two Sisters”. In the film, two teen girls return home from a stint at a mental institution to a wicked stepmother (Banks, we presume) and an uncaring father, and supernatural happenings start to occur. (Read our very positive review of the original here.) The original was directed by Ji-woon Kim, and was a commercial and critical hit internationally in 2003. The American version will be directed by brothers Thomas and Charles Guard, and begin shooting in July in Shreveport, La.
The American version was written by Craig Rosenberg, with rewrites from Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro.
Elizabeth Banks is most known for her role in the comedy hit “The 40-Year Old Virgin”, but geeks might know her more from playing Betty Brant (cranky JJ Jonah’s secretary) from all three “Spider-Man” movies.
