For a franchise that gets no respect in critical circles, it’s amazing how well Ron Howard and Tom Hanks’ Dan Brown movies have done in theaters. The first one, “The Da Vinci Code” broke the bank when it opened with a $77 million opening weekend, and went on to dominate the global markets with $540 million haul. The sequel, “Angels & Demons” continues the tradition, albeit to a lesser degree. The second movie based on Dan Brown’s book of the same name earned a respectable $48 million in its debut, down from the first movie, but still good enough to take first place at the weekend box office.
The Tom Hanks-Ron Howard film just barely beat out J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek”, which continues its strong showing (no doubt thanks to continued heavy ad rotation on TV), taking in another very impressive $43 million in its second week, giving the sci-fi reboot a two-week total of $147 million. It doesn’t look like [...]

“Angels and Demons” holds a niche position in one kind of movie watching hell. I could not let my mind wander while watching it and still follow the tangled intricacies of Robert Langdon’s fascinating professors tour of Rome and simultaneously, I really wanted my mind to wander. So “Angels And Demons”, as directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks definitely has some interesting things to offer. It obviously has Tom Hanks, who is always a pleasure to watch. Tom is practically dripping with personal integrity. It’s just not about the roles Tom has played through the years, going from good guy to good guy, it’s about the Tom inside. Some actors can skillfully portray a character but be unable to shield from us their inner workings. Tom Hanks is too honest not to add a slice of himself to every character he plays.
Dan Brown is a writer of great success who can really write a synopsis. There are two [...]

I’m gonna save you the pain of listening to my written dismay over the popularity of Ron Howard and Tom Hanks’ “Angels and Demons” franchise, since by now you’re either a diehard fan who can’t wait for the sequel or you could care less. If you fall into the former group, you’ll love these new batch of “Angels and Demons” pics featuring Hanks, newcomer Ayelet Zurer, and Ewan McGregor. And if you fall into the latter bunch — well, there’s plenty else to read on the site, so get outta here and go do that.

I still don’t get the huge popularity of the first movie, and I’m not sure what it is about “Angels and Demons” that’s got so many people excited. I’m definitely not one of them, and nothing I’ve seen from the movie so far has put it on my “must-see” list. Then again, I kinda liked Kevin Costner’s “The Postman”, so what do I know about quality movies. New images from Ron Howard’s “Angels and Demons”, based on the novel by Dan Brown, below.

The second part of “The Da Vinci Code” franchise hasn’t even opened yet, but don’t expect Columbia Pictures to sit on their heels waiting to see how the sequel to Ron Howard’s 2006 mega blockbuster does at the box office. Chances are, with the combination of Tom Hanks in front of the camera and Howard behind it, and the monstrous success of the first one ($758 million in worldwide grosses, in case you’re not keeping count), the sequel, “Angels and Demons” will also break big. And it’s not going to stop there: novelist Dan Brown has already finished the third installment in the franchise, titled “The Lost Symbol”, and Columbia Pictures will definitely be exercising their screen rights to the series.
According to Variety, Dan Brown’s “The Lost Symbol”, which will once again follow Robert Langdon, the main character from “The Da Vinci Code” and the upcoming “Angels and Demons” played by Tom Hanks in both cinematic adaptations, will be published [...]

A lot of new images from upcoming movies have been added to our existing galleries. Earlier this week, there were new additions to “The Taking of Pelham 123″ remake, more of Tom Hanks looking quizzical in “Angels and Demons”, and even more of Russell Crowe behind a desk in the political thriller “State of Play”. There are also newer images for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, as well as a gaggle of new images for Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen”. Plus, two more images from Robert Downey Jr.’s “Sherlock Holmes” manage to make top hats cool again. Well, kind of.

Remember when “The Matrix” destroyed our senses with that bullet-time commercial and the question that had us all asking, “What is the Matrix?” Nothing has come that close yet, but here are a couple of movies with big-time hype behind them: the latest teasers for “The Fast and Furious 4″, and our very first teasers for “G.I.
Yes, yes, I know that the “Da Vinci Code” movie made a gazillion dollars or thereabouts, and I know that a gazillion people have read Dan Brown’s novels, from which that movie and its sequel/prequel, “Angels and Demons” are based, but I gotta tell you, there’s still not a whole lot here that I’m getting all excited about. It’s got the star and director back from the first movie, which guarantees this will be more of the same. Rather that’s a good thing or a bad thing probably depends on what you thought of the first movie, but being that, as mentioned, the first one made a gazillion buckaroos at the box office, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that there are people who are looking forward to this one. So, for those of you who somehow found us by accident, here are more “Angels and Demons” images.

I have absolutely no interest in seeing Ron Howard’s “Angels and Demons”. I’ve never read the book, I’m not all that big a fan of Tom Hanks (nothing against the guy, but I’ve just never found his movies to be “must see” films), and from what I’ve heard of “The Da Vinci Code”, it sucked, although still managed to make a gazillion dollars worldwide. Funny how that works, huh? Anyways, on the heels of those first images from the movie surfacing in an article in USA Today, here’s the teaser trailer for the much-anticipated “Angels and Demons”, the prequel to Dan Brown’s “The Da Vinci Code”. You don’t see much, but that’s the point of a teaser trailer, I guess.

USA Today has your first look (including an article and images) from Ron Howard’s “Angels and Demons”, his and Tom Hanks’ sequel to the mega hit “The Da Vinci Code”, the movie that no critic seemed to liked, but everyone else seemed to love (to the tune of $758 million worldwide), once again reiterating the fact that movie critics suck, and no one really listens to them anyway. The new images feature star Tom Hanks, lead female and Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer, and Ewan McGregor as a Priest name Carlo Ventrasca. My guess is that the Vatican is up to no good; but then again, I’ve never read Dan Brown’s book, so I’m just guessing. I do know, though, that Hollywood and religion rarely mix, especially when it’s Catholicism.
USA Today has more on the movie’s plot, and something about controversy with the church, which, eh, who cares:
The adaptation of Dan Brown’s novel continues the sleuthing adventures of Robert Langdon [...]

When movie studios think it’s a good idea to put your name on top of the movie title on your movie posters, that’s when you know you’re living a charmed life. So how do you know when that charm life is getting less charming? When they start adding a second (or God forbid, a third) name along with yours over the movie title. That’s when you know it’s time to start saving some money and maybe, just maybe, pass on that third mistress in East L.A. But I digress. Here’s the first movie poster for Tom Hanks’ upcoming “Angels and Demons”, his prequel to “The Da Vinci Code”. Which reminds me: that’s another sign that you’re living a charm life; when every movie critic in the world savages your film, and it still makes a gazillion dollars.
So what’s the second one about?
Based on the novel by Dan Brown, “Angels and Demons” is a prequel to the author’s “The Da Vinci [...]

Coming on the heels that Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer had joined the cast of Ron Howard’s “The Davinci Code” sequel, “Angels and Demons” (a prequel, actually) as the movie’s female lead, comes this news that Ewan McGregor (soon to be seen in the upcoming “Deception”) is currently in negotiations to join the cast as well. The movie’s cast currently consists of Zurer and returning star Tom Hanks as religious art scholar Robert Langdon.
More from Variety:
Story centers on religious art scholar Robert Langdon (Hanks), who once again finds himself entangled with powerful forces with ancient roots: the Illuminati — the most powerful underground organization in history — and the Catholic Church. Zurer will play Vittoria Vetra, an Italian scientist who joins forces with Langdon.
Also returning to for the sequel is director Ron Howard and screenwriter Akiva Goldsmith.
McGregor can next be seen in “Deception” with Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams. He hasn’t exactly had a hit movie in a while, ever since [...]

Look at me, saying the name Vittoria Vetra like I know who she is. I don’t, of course. She’s apparently the main character in the Dan Brown book “Angels and Demons”, a prequel novel to his “The Da Vinci Code”, one of those books turned into a movie that everyone went to see, despite being universally panned. And trust me, when the critics turn on Tom Hanks and Ron Howard, they did it with a heavy heart, so the film had to be pretty bland. Of course, that didn’t stop the massive worldwide box office, which means automatic sequel — or in this case, prequel.
And in that said prequel, Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer (pictured, top left) will be playing Vittoria Vetra, the female lead opposite Tom Hanks’ Robert Langdon.
Entertainment Weekly, who broke the casting news, has more info on the character of Vittoria Vetra:
Zurer’s character is the daughter of CERN physicist Leonardo Vetra. Following her father’s death, Vittoria pairs with [...]

Although the sure-to-be-blockbuster “Angels and Demons”, the sequel to the (inexplicably) massive hit “The Da Vinci Code” has been postponed because of script problems (it needs work, but there are no writers to work on it, i.e. the ongoing writer’s strike), that hasn’t stopped the studio from signing Naomi Watts to join Tom Hanks as the film’s female lead. Or so sayeth The New York Post. Watts’ people have yet to confirm or deny the reports, so it’ll be up to the studio to announce it later, I would imagine. I’ve never read the book, but since “Angels and Demons” is supposed to be a prequel to “Code”, and Hanks’ character met Tautou’s in “Code”, Watts is probably going to be playing a new character.
More:
NAOMI Watts has scored a major role opposite Tom Hanks in “Angels and Demons,” the prequel to the “The Da Vinci Code,” which will also be directed by Ron Howard – but the production’s start has [...]

TV viewers have already sort of gotten used to this type of news, but now movie fans will have to adjust to it as well: the ongoing writers strike has claimed its first movie victim, this time it’s the production of “Angels and Demons”, the prequel/sequel to the unfathomably popular “The Da Vinci Code”. The movie, also based on the novel by Dan Brown and once again set to star Tom Hanks and be directed by Ron Howard, was originally scheduled to roll soon for a 2008 release, but citing problems with the script by Akiva Goldman (who because of the strike is unable to “fix” whatever is wrong with it), Columbia Pictures has decided to push the film back for a 2009 release instead. Of course, if the strike is still in full swing by then, well, 2010, maybe?

“While the filmmakers and the studio feel the screenplay is very strong, we do not believe it is the fully realized [...]
