Give them all the credit in the world: the legion of Twilighters that blanketed mall theaters across the country did their best, but when the dust cleared, the power of squealing teenage girls couldn’t quite trump the commitment of America’s fanboys. While Summit’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” took a healthy bite out of the box office, culminating in a $140 million chunk over the weekend according to studio estimates, it wasn’t nearly enough to overthrow the reigning champ, Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight”, which opened with $158.4 million a year ago.
In all-time 3-day openings, “The Dark Knight” remains king, while Sam Raimi’s “Spider-man 3″ remains second with $151 million, with “New Moon’s” $140 good enough for third place. Though it didn’t top previous movies in the States, “New Moon” was dominant overseas, putting its worldwide total for its first week of release at $258.8 million. “New Moon” also easily bested “Twilight”, the first movie in the franchise, which [...]

Nic Cage acting all hopped up on drugs and stuttering his way through a story about pirate treasure and a missing spoon while showing off his shack/childhood castle? Nic Cage does that in his sleep, buddy, and he does it here, in this clip from Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”. The loony crime/drama co-stars Cage, Mendes, Val Kilmer, Fairuza Balk, Jennifer Coolidge, Brad Dourif, Michael Shannon, Shawn Hatosy, Xzibit, Denzel Whitaker, Shea Whigham, Irma P. Hall, and probably won’t be entertaining you in a theater near you anytime soon. Unfortunately for Kilmer, this looks like it’ll hit a couple of theaters in limited release before going directly to DVD and cable; but then again, Kilmer is probably used to that. Via Apple.

Yahoo! Movies has the official trailer for Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”, which may or may not be a remake of the Abel Ferrara-directed 1992 movie starring Harvel Keital. At this point, I don’t think anyone cares, except maybe Abel Ferrara. Besides Cage, Eva Mendes plays a prostitute with a heart of gold. Or possibly not. Well, I’m sure she’s got a heart full of something.
A rogue detective is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs — while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves. Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, [...]

New pics from three movies from vastly different spectrums — Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes in Werner Herzog’s remake of “Bad Lieutenant”, character one-sheets for the teen vampire flick “Twilight: New Moon”, and new pics of the gun-toting, zombie-killing girls of “Zombieland”. One is heavily anticipated by its fanbase, the other, not so much, while the last one — well, who knows how it’ll do. “Twilight: New Moon” arrives November 20, 2009, Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant” makes its New Orleans port of call, well, whenever someone buys it for distribution, and “Zombieland” arrives just before Halloween in October.
Three new batch of images for ya this weekend: Up first, grisly zombie madness from George Romero’s latest stab at zombie glory, the strangely titled “Survival of the Dead”, his pseudo sequel to 2007’s “Diary of the Dead”. There are also new images for the Coen Brothers’ period dramedy “A Serious Man”, which looks to be pretty non-serious if you ask me, and I know you didn’t. And finally, wacky and kinda sexy (courtesy of Eva Mendes) images from Nicolas Cage and Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”, which will either be the greatest movie of the year, or the worst. Right now, I couldn’t tell ya where it’s going, though it looks suitably “out there”.

Red band trailer, including naughty language and lots of coke snortin’ below.
Trailer via IconVsIcon. I would serve this trailer on our own server, but I have this feeling this isn’t officially official and might get pulled soon.

To be honest with you, I’m neither for or against the upcoming Werner Herzog movie “Bad Lieutenant” (since retitled: “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” because, well, just calling it “Bad Lieutenant” wasn’t long and simple enough, apparently), but I am surprised to learn that it isn’t actually a remake of the 1992 Abel Ferrara film of the same name that originally starred Harvey Keital. So, what, no nuns getting raped? Instead, it’s more of a, er, I don’t know, really. The setting has changed, too, now we’re in post-Katrina New Orleans instead of New York.
Here, I’ll let the stars of the movie explain it for ya. They seem to know more about it than me.
Last week, Cage told MTV this about the “remake” that isn’t a remake — the most interesting departure? His character, for one:
“It’s a new version of ‘Bad Lieutenant’ in a whole new place. [Herzog] connects it to Bond – like there was more [...]

Nu Image and Millennium Films’ much-decried upcoming remake of “Bad Lieutenant” continues to mosy on along with the casting process. With Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes already on board, new names include Val Kilmer and rapper turned actor Xzibit (pictured left, who will be seen in the upcoming “X-Files” sequel, playing, if you can believe it, a fed), as well as Jennifer Coolidge, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shawn Hatosy, and Denzel Whitaker. The man responsible is Edward R. Pressman, who produced the original, and is putting his own movie on the chopping block for a remake.
THR has the plot of your original, although not necessarily the remake, as evidenced by the final sentence in this article:
The original followed the depraved adventures of a corrupt policeman (Harvey Keitel) investigating the rape of a nun. The new film will feature Cage as the titular crooked cop and capture the spirit of the original, with the protagonist’s drug intake, accepting sexual favors as bribes [...]

Abel Ferrara (pictured left, upon hearing news of the remake), the director of the original “Bad Lieutenant”, ain’t so thrilled that the Godless gents over at Nu Image/Millennium Films have his movie up on the remake chopping block. The remake, based on the 1992 NC-17 rated original about one bad cop with too many vices to list, is set to star Nicolas Cage in the Harvey Keital role, with Werner Herzog (director of “Rescue Dawn”, and who no one can ever call a hack) directing. In reaction to the news, Ferrara said this while at Cannes last month (via):
“As far as remakes go, Harvey [Weinstein? Not mentioned in this Variety story in connection to the project. Keitel, who starred in the original? Hmmmm....] begged me not to say anything mean, or stupid. [pause] But I wish these people die in Hell. I hope they’re all in the same streetcar, and it blows up.”

The boys over at Nu Image/Millennium must be on some kind of crusade to remake every single movie that no one has asked them to remake. What I’m saying is, there are rumors that needs to be remade, movies that people don’t mind being remade, and movies that no one cares about being remade; and then there are movies that people REALLY DON’T WANT TO BE REMADE.
And that’s where Nu Image/Millennium comes in! Their latest target? Abel Ferrara’s NC-17 rated 1992 cop drama, “Bad Lieutenant”, soon to be packaged as a Nicolas Cage movie with Werner Herzog (”Rescue Dawn”) behind the remake cameras.
Here’s the plot of the original:
A police Lieutenant goes about his daily tasks of investigating homicides, but is more interested in pursuing his vices. He has accumulated a massive debt betting on baseball, and he keeps doubling to try to recover. His bookies are beginning to get agitated.
