Or is that nightmare? I can’t remember which. In any case, MTV, as they are wont to do, recently asked comedian/actor Dane Cook what comic book character he’d most like to play, and Cook mentioned The Riddler for the Nolan “Batman” films. Or as Cook puts it, “that would be bad-ass.” Check out the full interview below.
Dane Cook is a pretty hit-and-miss comedian. You either love him or you don’t. There doesn’t seem to be any real middle ground when it comes to his comedy. I liked him in the beginning — his energy onscreen is awesome. But I haven’t really followed him in the last few years, mostly because I’m all about Brian Regan now, and Cook’s crazy, flipping out onstage doesn’t do it for me anymore.
But hey, Cook as the Riddler in a “Batman 3″? I guess that would be okay. To be honest with you, I’d prefer never to see the Riddler in any of Nolan’s “Batman” [...]

“There is nobody, there’s no script, there’s nothing,” Michael Caine told MTV News as he was promoting his new film “Harry Brown” at the Toronto International Film Festival. Also, if you close your eyes, there is no universe. Apparently unaware that negative confirmations don’t make for interesting news, he went on to say that: “It can’t possibly be made before 2011 because ‘Inception’ is such a big picture.”
It’s amazing that Nolan can dictate such terms at all. Warner Bros. execs must be queasy at the mere notion that they have to wait four or five years for a sequel to a billion dollar film without any inertia in between to sustain it. But people like Nolan work best when they’re off to their next creative endeavor and not necessarily to one that they’re obligated to perform. I also have to imagine that Heath Ledger’s death set him back: it was a mistake to kill the Joker in Burton’s “Batman”, and [...]

Oh, you British tabloids. They make us movie bloggers look good by comparison. Sure, some of us lowly bloggers, what with our stained boxers and smelly undershirts like to make up stories just for the traffic, and God knows I haven’t been discerning enough not to link to even the most obviously fake (or poorly sourced) news from my fellow bloggers, but you know, compared to the guys who write for the British tabloids like The Sun, we’re practically oozing with journalistic integrity. So, here’s the latest questionable story from Across the Pond, which has Megan Fox playing Catwoman in Nolan’s Batman 3.
And just to show you how much they don’t care that you already know this story is probably not true, the writer of the article doesn’t even pretend he got this news from one of those oft-mentioned but rarely disclosed “anonymous studio sources”. Instead, he just comes right out and says that Megan Fox will play Catwoman in [...]

Probably not, but man, it sure seems to be taking him a long time to commit to the sequel already. So long, in fact, that the fanboys on the Internet are abuzz with the non-commitment. According to the blokes over at Batman-on-Film, whose sole job is to track all things Batman-related (thus the name), it took the combined might of Nolan’s brother Jonathan and writer David Goyer just to convince Nolan to return for “The Dark Knight”. And now a year has almost passed since that movie opened to huge box office, and still no signs that Nolan even wants to do another Batman movie. So what gives?
Word from BOF’s industry sources (nice to have one of those) is that Nolan is not only NOT signed on to a third Batman movie, but he’s not even close to signing. Which means Warner Bros. has begun to make a short list of directors (Zack Snyder is apparently one of them) [...]

This has got to be the dumbest movie rumor of the year: Australia’s HeraldSun is actually reporting that Sam Worthington is being “tipped” (whatever the hell that means) to replace Christian Bale as Batman in the third “Batman Begins” movie. You know, the one that has made a gazillion bucks with Christian Bale so far? Yeah, that one. I can only assume that being the HeraldSun is Australian, they’re just trying to boost a fellow Aussie’s profile. Either that, or they’re just dumb.
The HeraldSun has no sources (or at least, they didn’t mention any), only that “industry gossip” is the origins of this ridiculous rumor:
Industry gossip now suggests the rising Australian star could score the part of Batman in the third instalment of the successful prequel franchise.
That could mean replacing Bale, his Terminator co-star and The Dark Knight lead, whose profile was damaged after his infamous “me, me, me” meltdown on the Terminator set, which recently hit the internet.
Hah! [...]

If it sucks being Aaron Eckhart and being asked constantly by oblivious reporters about your obviously dead character, it probably doesn’t suck too much to be one of the actresses rumored up for the part of Catwoman in the third Batman film. Or at least, if you’re a publicist worth his salt, you’ve already positioned your client as one of the women up for the role, even if said role doesn’t technically exist … yet. But let’s be honest: Catwoman is bound to show up in the rebooted Bat franchise sooner or later. That much is a give. So when the Cat finally does show up to get some Bat, who should play her? Let’s break down the candidates and see where they rank in the odds department. (And yes, I’m going to ignore the fact that some retard somewhere actually suggested Cher might star in the role.)

Aaron Eckhart is obviously tired of Two-Face questions. Is he dead? Isn’t he? What are you, retarded? He was obviously dead at the end of “The Dark Knight”, and everyone has said so, from Nolan to Goyer to Eckhart numerous times. (And yes, if that’s a spoiler, then you deserve to have it spoiled for you, since it means you haven’t seen the movie yet. Why haven’t you? It’s only the best comic book ever made! Well, after “Catwoman” with Halle Berry, I mean.) So Aaron Eckhart was at the Golden Globes over the weekend and some dork from MTV shoved a microphone into his face and asked him another stupid Two-Face question. And it’s not just another Two-Face question, it’s the Two-Face question. You know, the one Eckhart has heard only, oh, a billion times before?

It seems that British writer Gordon Smart, who last week wrote in The Sun that Eddie Murphy has been cast as The Riddler in the upcoming Batman Begins 3 movie and that Shia LaBeouf would be playing Robin, among other interesting tidbits, is taking offense to the fanboy community calling bullshit on his news gathering ways. In his own defense, Smart would like to point out that the same source who imparted the Batman rumors onto him also told him Daniel Craig was the new Bond back in 2005, before Craig became the new Bond.
Reports MTV via The Guardian UK:
“Everyone had a crack at us when we published that one,” said Smart. “I was almost laughed out of conference that day, but it turned out to be spot on. I wish I had had a bet on it.”

Our Brit readers seem to take offense whenever I write an article and mention that some of their newspapers are worst than our tabloid rags when it comes to, ahem, accuracy. Sure, our National Enquirer and the such tends to make up news as they go for the express purpose of selling papers, but you gotta give them credit — every now and then they actually break real news that affects the entire nation. I can’t really say the same about a lot of so-called news magazines from Across the Pond.
While Christopher Nolan is still dancing around the idea of returning for “Batman Begins 3″ (is he? isn’t he? how much money will it take?), rumors about who the next movie’s villains will be (and who will be playing said villains) continue to abound. The latest has Rachel Weisz being Warner Bros.’ top choice to play Catwoman. At least this is the news from Ted Casablanca over at E! Online. The last time Weisz’s name was thrown around a big-time comic book property it was “Sin City 2″, and the other name in the running for said part was Angelina Jolie — who, coincidentally, is also the odds on favorite to play Catwoman in “Batman Begins 3″ should Catwoman actually appear in the sequel. Catfight, anyone?
Weisz, thank heaven, according to insiders who are currently working on the Warner’s production, which hasn’t even been officially announced yet. But Weisz’s name is so early on, not even Weisz’s publicist claims to have [...]

Then again, maybe not. In the third and last part of their interview with “Batman Begins” director Christopher Nolan, the LA Times asks the director for his take on the Justice League movie, and the idea of crossing Nolan’s Batman over with the more colorful characters of the DC Universe. Basically, Nolan doesn’t think it could work. In fact, if he had his way, there wouldn’t exist a DC Universe.

Hey, look, Christopher Nolan has finally left his island paradise and returned to the world of us mere mortals! Which is a good thing, too, because all the Batman sequel rumors going around have been insane, not to mention ridiculously bullshitty. In an interview with the L.A. Times, Nolan still doesn’t go into very much details. The three-part article (part one is published now) barely scrapes the surface of a possible Batman Begins 3, which Warner Bros. was so excited to make (and why wouldn’t they be? “The Dark Knight” is already a $1 billion dollar movie for them) they already announced Nolan’s return, except no one bothered to tell Nolan. As to a possible storyline for Batman Begins 3, Nolan doesn’t rule out the Joker’s return, but says he didn’t plan for it with the second movie.

There’s probably only two people right now who knows what, and who, will be in the as-yet-untitled third installment of the “Batman Begins” reboot — writer David Goyer, who has co-penned both “Batman Begins” flicks (and just about every other comic book-themed project to come down the pipe, or so it seems like), and co-writer/director Christopher Nolan. And since Nolan has disappeared to an island somewhere, probably never to be seen again for a while, it’s up to David Goyer to dispel all those wacky rumors circulating around the third “Batman Begins” film. You know the ones, right? The Angelina Jolie as Catwoman, Johnny Depp as the Riddler, and so on. Most of those rumors have since been squashed by the actors themselves, and you would think they would know which movie they’ll be in, right? Granted, actors are a vacuous bunch, but that seems pretty basic.
Here’s what Goyer told MTV regarding all those rumors:
“It’s all B.S.,” [Goyer] said. “ALL [...]

Here’s a shocker: another actor who has been linked to “Batman Begins 3″ has denied any involvement with the movie, or even knows what the heck everyone is going on about. Two days ago MTV ran a ridiculous article that quoted Michael Caine (Alfred in both of Christopher Nolan’s Batman flicks) as saying Philip Seymour Hoffman and Johnny Depp were already cast as the Penguin and Riddler, respectively, for the still-untitled “Batman Begins 3″. Well, we already know that Johnny Depp has never heard anyone mention it to him about joining the movie, and now Hoffman has said pretty much the same thing.
Again, via MTV:
“No one has talked to me about it ever — never,” replied Hoffman. “It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and it’s still a rumor. [laughs] It’s just in the press. It’s funny.”
To further cement this issue, Hoffman added that he’d never met Nolan (”Maybe I did or met him [...]

So MTV is reporting that Michael Caine talked to someone who (may be) connected to Warner Bros. somehow and they told him that the villains for “Batman Begins 3″ will be The Riddler and The Penguin, and that none other than Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman, respectively, will be playing those roles. Which just goes to show you that no one tells Michael Caine anything. Seriously, I’m not trying to insult the man here, but let’s face it, no one of any consequence told Michael Caine that the villains for the next Batman movie would be The Riddler and The Penguin, and especially who will be playing them.
But hey, don’t take my word for it. Here’s MTV with the Caine stuff:
“I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you [...]

With all the hullabaloo surrounding who will be the featured villain (or villains) in the inevitable “Batman Begins 3″, and who will be playing them (really? Cher as Catwoman? Man, someone was on crack that day), it’s easy to forget about Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, who joined the Joker in menacing Gotham City in “The Dark Knight”. So what’s the deal with Two-Face? Well, if I told you that, I would be REVEALING the ending of “The Dark Knight”, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, I would suggest leaving now.
Okay, so you’re still here…
There seems to be an issue about Harvey Dent’s fate at the end of “The Dark Knight”. Did he or didn’t he die? This is a comic book movie, after all, and death isn’t always guaranteed. And if he didn’t die, is he destined to return in “Batman Begins 3″?
CHUD has the word from Two-Face himself:

Hey, kids, remember that casting rumor that had Johnny Depp playing the Riddler in a still untitled “Batman Begins 3″? Someone mentioned it, some newspaper decided it was good enough to print it, and movie blogs everywhere picked it up. Of course we all knew it was bullshit when we posted it, but hey, it was probably a slow news day. The fact is, there isn’t a script for a “Batman Begins 3″ movie, which means villains have not been chosen, much less “casting rumors” for the actors to play them. Heck, Christopher Nolan hasn’t even said if he would come back for a third outing behind the director’s chair. But hey, it was fun to talk about, right?
Anyways, we finally have Depp responding to the casting rumor via the Comic Book Cynic / Via. Depp was on, of all things, a Florida radio show promoting a reunion gig for his band The Kids, and the question came up:
Host: Hey [...]

Sometimes you gotta look at these casting rumors and laugh, because to do anything else would be, well, silly. So the latest “Batman Begins” 3 casting rumor comes from The Telegraph newspaper out of the UK, which has Cher as the front runner for the role of Catwoman in the upcoming as-yet-untitled “Batman Begins 3″ (although the article says the sequel has been “provisionally entitled” (whatever that means) “The Caped Crusader”). Why cast a 62-year old woman to play a seductive cat burglar/anti-hero? Um, apparently because it would be going against type, and defying previous Catwoman castings ala Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry. Yeah, that makes a whole lot of sense.
But don’t let that stop you from reading what the Telegraph has to say:
A studio executive said: “Cher is Nolan’s first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years.
“The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and [...]

According to Variety, via SyFyPortal (of all places — since when does Batman qualify as “sci-fi”? but I digress), Warner Bros. has extended an offer to “The Dark Knight” director Christopher Nolan to take on the third installment of the rebooted Batman franchise. Obviously everyone saw this coming; you would have to be an idiot, wrapped in a bow of dumb dumb nuts, to think that Warner Bros. wouldn’t be doing everything it can to get Nolan back behind the camera for a third outing of the further adventures of The Bat.
Anyways, here’s Variety (via):
“There’s a deal for the director to helm a third picture, but he has yet to decide on whether to tackle it yet,” said Alan Horn, head of Warner Bros. studios. “We have no idea where Chris is going with this. We haven’t had any conversations with him about it.”
