To start off with, a couple of casting news: Former ER doc Noah Wylie is in the running for the lead in a new TNT TV show about the aftermath of an alien invasion, to be produced by that Spielberg guy; and over at Mars happenings, former “Spider-Man 3″ villain Thomas Haden Church let slip that he’ll be joining the cast of “John Carter of Mars”, though wouldn’t say who he’ll be playing. Check out the rest of this week’s notable sci-fi news below.

Sci-Fi Trailers! Trailers! Trailers!
Roland Emmerich continues his grudge against the planet by blowing it up in cool and ridiculous ways in the first full trailer for his end-of-the-world movie “2012″, starring John Cusack as your savior and Danny Glover as the President. Yup, the world really going to hell.

Over in indie land, Paul Giamatti decides to do what all good Hollywood actors must do, get rid of his soul in the first trailer for his “Cold Souls”. [...]

A couple of casting news in the world of sci-fi this previous week, including a couple of big ones and a couple of TV (smaller) ones that only people interested in those shows will care about. And of course, another Hollywood remake makes a big announcement, and this time it’s no flash in the pan. Get it? Um, let’s continue, shall we?
Three More Battlestar Galactica DVD Movies on the Way? – Battlestar Galactica land leads us off with news that the Sci Fi Channel is considering as many as 3 original BSG movies in the future. Also from BSG land, the BSG prequel Caprica nabs a couple of additional actors for its show.
Emmerich’s Apocalyptic 2012 Gets Cusack, Ejiofor – John Cusack plans to leave the stink of the impending failure that was “War Inc” for the greener pastures of Roland Emmerich’s latest “destroy the planet” saga. He’s joined by the dude from “Serenity”.

What would a sci-fi week in review be without a Stargate or X-Files sequel news? Well it would be pretty damn boring, that’s for sure. The previous week’s sci-fi movie and TV news also includes a huge helping of solid casting news about Joss Whedon’s new FOX show Dollhouse, which stars Eliza Dushku and now, a couple of more castmembers from Whedon’s previous shows. And finally, some Star Wars and BSG news as well.

Stargate: Continuum Bootleg Trailer – The first trailer for the upcoming Stargate DVD movie, “Continuum”. It was bootleg out of some convention or festival or the such. Looks good.
Movie Trailer: Star Wars – The Clone Wars – Movie trailer for George Lucas’ latest money making scheme — er, I mean, Star Wars movies was posted online for a moment, before getting pulled everywhere else. Scour the net, maybe you can still find it somewhere. Hint: YouTube.

Cheer up, Battlestar Galactica fans. So your favorite depressing sci-fi show will come back with a fourth and final season, but at least you have two specially ordered BSG movies to look forward to. (And wasn’t there talk about a prequel-set spin-off show?) The first original movie, to premiere in November, is “Battlestar Galactica: Razor”, which as expected will fill in the details of the Battlestar Pegasus and her soon-to-be-doomed crew, including her captain, Admiral Helena Cain (Michelle Forbes). SyFy Portal has your details about the upcoming 2-hour “Razor”, which will air first on the Sci Fi Channel before hitting DVDs thanks to some rights loophole that forbids a BSG movie unless it premieres on TV first. I think.
More from SyFy Portal:
Michelle Forbes — introduced to genre fans as the Bajoran Ensign Ro in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” — will reprise her role as the iron-balled admiral in the telemovie, proving to viewers that her sunny disposition wasn’t exactly [...]

(Article by Tony G.) Battlestar Galactica is awesome!
I never thought I’d get to say that on Beyond Hollywood, but I’m happy to have found a news item relating to a possible Battlestar movie. Now it’s only rumours and speculation at the moment, after producer David Eick mentioned he’d like to get a feature film made. and quite honestly my hopes are low. I just can’t imagine this happening, especially with the fact that creator Ronald D. Moore has decided to wrap things up and finish the show in Season 4 (which will end next year). There just doesn’t seem to be any purpose to put it on the big screen, except to please a few million diehard fans.
However what I find even more interesting is the idea that Glen Larson, the man behind the original incarnation of Battlestar Galactica back in the 70s, has always had a plan to make a feature film based on his universe (the new version [...]
